This item is a photograph of the Jewish community of Kirkland Lake assembled for the Bar Mitzvah of Joe Atkins, now a chartered accountant in Toronto. The photograph depicts that group seated at several banquet tables in the Legion Hall.
Notes
Typed notes on the back continue: "Rare view of Hyman with his hat off, the grandfather, standing next to Harry. The only one missing is the photographer - Eddie Duke - and to this day I wish I could have been included. Picture taken in the Legion Hall which was koshered for the occasion.".

Admin History/Bio
David Day and his brother Jacob Day started a Hebrew school in Toronto on Major Street. Eventually, David Day started his own cheder on Markham Street and Jacob Day operated another cheder on Ulster Street. They both taught during the mid 1900s, from approximately 1925 to 1940.
David Day had two sons named Sam and Nat. Nat Day was in the army and was married to Evelyn Day.
Scope and Content
Copy photograph of Mr. Day's cheder that was taken for a student's Bar Mitzvah. David Day is in the middle of the group and his son is standing behind him in uniform. The photograph was taken in 1942.

Robert Joel Kamin was the son of Sylvia Goldstick and Dr. Izzy Kamin. Sylvia was Betty Goldstick Lindgren's niece and the daughter of Maurice and Regina (Blaum) Goldstick. The couple married in 1940 and lived in San Fransisco. The other children included David and Bruce.

Accession consists of an invitation and guest list for the Bar Mitzvah of Dale Lastman, the son of former mayor Mel Lastman. The Bar Mitzvah took place at Adath Israel Synagogue on 28 March 1970, was followed by a luncheon the same day and then a dinner at the Royal York Hotel the following night.

Accession consists of photographs of the Hersch family, a screenplay by Phillip Hersch, school certificates from Landsdowne School, Canadian naturalization certificates, thank you notes, a New Year's greeting card, and a Polish passport. Included are photographs of weddings, Europe vacations, class photos, houses in Toronto, bar mitzvah, Niagara falls, Channukah, Farms, studio sets, the beach, and snow scenes
Custodial History
The records were in the possession of Norman Hersch until his death in the mid-1980s, at which point the donor took possession of the records and stored them until donating them to the OJA in March 2015.
Administrative History
Norman Hersch was a special effects technician for the CBC from the early 1950s until his retirement in the mid-1980s. He was married to a French woman from Western Canada named Margaret. He is buried in the Mount Albert area with his wife. He served in the Canadian military during the Second World War and graduated from Central Technical School upon his return. In later years, he started P & M Display in Yorkville. Norman's older brother Phillip was a screenwriter in Toronto. He wrote the CBC series Wojek. Their mother Lily (Polish) volunteered at Mount Sinai Hospital. Their father Alexander (Romanian) worked in stainless steel manufacturing. They lived around Cecil Street. Doug Wardle was a friend and colleague of Hersch's at CBC in the Special Effects Department.

Accession consists of material documenting Gary Wagman and his family. Included are: 65 photographs of the Gold-Wagman family. 28 of the photographs were taken at Gary's bar mitzvah party, which was held on 8 March 1964 at the North Bathurst Talmud Torah.
Administrative History
Gary Irving Wagman (1951-) was born 19 March 1951 and is the youngest son of Ann Wagman (née Gold, 1926-2017) and Sollie Wagman (1921-2014). His older brother Howard, known as Hushy (1947-2001), was born 9 October 1947. Gary is the grandson of David and Rose Gold (his maternal grandparents) and Celia and Jacob Wagman (his paternal grandparents).

Accession consist of one film reel of the April 1, 1959 Bar Mitzvah of Hersh Cohen held at the Hebrew Men of England Synagogue, Spadina Ave., Toronto . Also seen is the post-ceremony reception for family and friends at the Barclay Hotel, Toronto. Shots include: removal of Torah scrolls, portions of the service with Bar Mitzva and others reading from the Torah, family members at the Bima, Hersch Cohen and family members walking to car after services, family and friends at post-service reception.
Also included is a photograph of the staff of Camp Winnebagoe, near Huntsville, Ontario.

Accession consists of a large portrait of Martin Shaffer during his bar mitzvah at Shaarey Shomayim Synagogue in 1971. There are also two Shaffer family kiddish cups, one inscribed with Hebrew lettering. Nancy's husband, Sam, received one of the cups at his bar mitzvah and the second was given to Martin.

Photograph and cups were mailed in by Nancy Shaffer to be included with the Shaffer family records.

Jack Bernstein was born in Toronto in 1918. He was the son of Akiva Bernstain, the famous cantor at Beth Tzedec. They lived for some time on Major Street and then moved to 516 Palmerston Street during the 1930s.
Jack began his career at RKO as a contract clerk and moved up the ranks to become Toronto Branch Manager and Sales Manager during the late 1940s. He later became president of Famous Players Theatres Canada.
He married Mary and they had two children: Harriet and Mark. Bernstein passed away in 1988.

The item is an original portrait along with a copy of Jack Bernstein wearing a tallis during his bar mitzvah.

Admin History/Bio
David Greenberg was an electrical engineer, who married at the age of 19. He later became a chiropracter in Toronto. His father, Louis Greenberg, was a tailor whose shop was located in the Jarvis and Parliament area on Queen Street East. The family originally belonged to the Berkeley Street Synagogue, but there was no minyan for David's Bar Mitzvah and they moved to the McCaul Street Synagogue. David's stepmother's name was Sadie.
Scope and Content
Item is a portrait of David Greenberg, his father Louis Greenberg and his stepmother Sadie. The picture was taken for David's Bar Mitzvah on October 13, 1935.

This item is a copy print and corresponding negative of the Jewish community assembled in the Adath Israel Synagogue banquet hall for the Bar Mitzvah party of Larry Kussner. The large crowd is seated at several banquet tables in the hall, that is decorated for the occasion.

Martin Irwin Lockshin was born in Toronto in 1952, the son of Louis Leon and Sylvia (née Freedman) Lockshin. He received his PhD from Brandeis University in 1984 and is also an ordained Rabbi.
Currently, Professor Martin Lockshin is an Associate Professor of Humanities in the Department of Languages, Literature, and Linguistics at York University. He has published extensively and recently completed a term as Director of York's Centre for Jewish Studies.
