Scope and Content
Series consists of records documenting Phil Givens’ work as Mayor of Toronto from 1963 until 1966. The bulk of the records are photographs featuring Mayor Givens at various city and community events; of note are images of Givens meeting with Robert Kennedy, Israeli President Zalmon Shazar, Sam Shopsowitz, and Pope Paul VI. Also included is general correspondence, speeches, election campaign materials, cartoons, certificates, artifacts, textual records related to the acquisition of the Henry Moore sculpture, a VHS cassette of Givens discussing the building of the New City Hall and an audiocassette documenting a council trip to Montreal in 1966. In addition, there is a small number of photographs which document events that occurred outside the dates of his time in office, but which relate to his role as mayor.
The series has been arranged into nine sub-series: 4-1. Campaign; 4-2. City of Toronto Council; 4-3. Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto Council; 4-4. City of Toronto Board of Control; 4-5. Henry Moore Sculpture and artwork; 4-6. Official engagements; 4-7. Certificates and Awards; 4-8. Portraits and publicity; and 4-9. Political cartoons.

File consists of records documenting Phil Givens' successful campaign for mayor in the 1962 municipal election. Included is Givens' campaign platform, notes on his competitor Allan Lamport, an event invitation, campaign literature, a newsclipping, and blank letterheads from Givens' campaign headquarters. Also included is one ruler that Givens handed out to voters with the slogan "YOUR MAYOR GIVENS FOR PLANNED PROGRESS" printed on it.

File consists of photographs documenting Phil and Min Givens' trip to Israel in 1965. Included are images of Phil and Min Givens at an air show in Tel-Aviv, visiting Mayor M. Namir at the City Hall in Tel-Aviv-Yafo, visiting the Hebrew University of Jerusalem with Eddie Gelber and visiting with Israeli President Zalmon Shazar. The photographs of the visit with President Shazar were originally given to Phil and Min Givens in an album by the Keren Hayesod United Israel Appeal as a momento of their trip.

Included are images of Phil and Min Givens at dinner receptions, meeting with Italian politicians, touring Italian ruins, and meeting Pope Paul VI at an event at St. Peter's Basillica. Also included is one newsclipping from The Telegram detailing Phil Givens' meeting with Pope Paul VI and one page of a news story entitled "Toronto in Italy - diary of a trip".
