- Milton Shier was born in 1918. With his wife Shoshana Shier, he parented two children: Joy-Anne and Joseph. Milton was the chairman of the Ontario Store Fixtures company and he was also a dedicated supporter of Jewish education. His wife Shoshana received her first bachelors degree when she was in her sixties and after her death, Milton created the Shoshana Shier Distinguished Visiting Professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto. He has also helped the University of Toronto promote the Jewish Studies Department, which has flourished to become an internationally recognized programme. Milton also sits on the Board of Governors for the Associated Hebrew Schools.
