- Joseph Tanenbaum was born on September 25, 1906 in Poland to parents Chippa Sarah and Abraham. The family moved to Canada. Joe became a bridge builder and industrialist, eventually taking over the family business--Runnymede Steel Construction. Two of the company's major accomplishments were the Burlington Skywayand the Hamer Bridge in St. Catharines.
- He was a founder of the YW-YMHA, director of Israeli Bonds, an active member of UJA, B'nai B'rith, New Mount Sinai, Jewish Home for the Aged and Baycrest Hospital, Canadian Friends of Yeshiva University, Ner Israel Rabbinical College and Talmud Torah.
