- Antisemitic telephone message featuring the voice of John Beattie, coordinator of the British People's League, a white nationalist organization based in Minden, Ontario.
- Biography
- William John Beattie (known as John Beattie) was the founder and former leader of the Canadian Nazi Party. The establishment of the Canadian Nazi Party, re-named the National Socialist Party in 1967, marked a re-emergence of organized neo-Nazi activity in Canada.
- Beattie organized a number of rallies in Toronto in the mid-1960s and used the Allan Gardens in Toronto to spread hate propaganda. One of these rallies on 30 May 1965 resulted in a violent encounter with Jewish activists who disrupted Beattie’s rally at Allan Gardens. A legal case was made against Beattie for antisemitic and racist comments, and an expose article was written in Canadian newsmagazine Maclean's by private investigator John Garrity, who had been hired by the Canadian Jewish Congress to infiltrate Beattie's movement. As a result of a daubing swastikas on the gateposts of prominent Jewish leaders in Toronto, Beattie was sent to prison for six months, having been convicted of public mischief.
- After changing the group’s name to the National Socialist Party, Beattie created a recorded telephone message line. Among the messages recorded was one that claimed that "Blacks were being manipulated by Jew-communists." Beattie disbanded the National Socialist Party in 1978. Soon after, he and John Ross Taylor co-founded the short-lived British People's League, a white nationalist orgnization based in Minden, Ontario. In 1988 and 1989, Beattie organized "Aryan Fest" parties on his property in Minden, Ontario.

- Scope and Content
- Item consists of a talk given by John Beattie at the North Toronto Community Centre on 8 May 1969, moderated by Canadian National Socialist Party Chairman Martin Weiche. During the event, Beattie briefly talks about his speech at Allan Gardens on 5 May 1968 and reads his letter requesting the right to speak at the same location on 20 April 1969, when he was attacked by a member of the public. He claims that the National Socialist Party of Canada stands for National Socialism, not Adolf Hitler, and that the party has not been able to grow because he hasn't been allowed to speak in public. He also claims to support freedom of speech and states that being allowed to speak on this occasion has been the party's greatest victory since its founding in 1965. He goes on to briefly list some of the advantages for white non-Jews to be members of the party and predicts a rise in membership in the future. He also suggests that members and supporters buy pornographic materials and Israel bonds and set them on fire. He then claims to support the Arab cause in Israel, who, according to him, were robbed of their homeland by Jews, as Canadians have been, going on to affirm that the Ashkenazim enslave the Sephardim in Israel. He also warns about the dangers of Marxism, which he claims was promoted by the Jews, and claims that the Talmud is a piece of hate literature for its alleged view on non-Jews. He then claims that Jews are promoters of pornography and divorce, which they use as weapons to weaken the social fabric of white non-Jews, and promises that, if elected, he would deport all Jews. He also calls for the boycott of Jewish businesses and claims that the party has a list of sympathetic businesses to which to refer its members and supporters. He then announces his support to Latin American dictatorships for "executing their criminals" and claims that Canada has almost become a colony of Israel, as West Germany had. He also calls for the unity of white peoples around the world and describes the Swastika as a symbol of white unity. Finally, he describes what he believes to be the Jewish plan for world domination: to mix all races, which he claims is not natural, and produce "confused" mix-raced people, while Jews will remain pure and rule as an aristocratic elite.

- Activities undertaken by the Committee for Soviet Jewry in Ontario and its affiliated partner organizations included political lobbying, telephone and letter-writing campaigns, product boycotting, symposiums, public rallies, petitions, marches and demonstrations. Among the highest profile activities were the annual Simcha Torah rallies in October and the annual commemorations of the execution of twenty-four Soviet Jewish writers and intellectuals, which had occurred on August 12, 1952 at Moscow's Liubianka prison. As well as organizing public protest activities, the Committee for Soviet Jewry established, in the 1980s, the Ida Nudel Humanitarian Award which emphasized the humanitarian work of a number of prominent Canadian women. Other non-protest activities included bar/ bat mitzvah twinning, family and prisoner sponsorships, and holiday greetings, all programmes that tied the daily lives of Soviet Jews to their Canadian counterparts.
- Scope and Content
