Born in the United States, Joanne Ruderfer is a writer and playwright, and most notably, an investor in musical theatre productions. She has invested in and produced a number of cabarets and musical theatre productions, beginning in the mid-1970s. In 1974, she helped found Toronto's Phoenix Theatre, and stayed with the company for close to two years, before being bought out by her co-owners. In the mid-seventies, she formed a company called Lank Investments, a partnership with actor Tony Miller that supplied financial backing to cabaret revues.
Ruderfer has written one musical play, "The Magi's Gift", and has written lyrics for original musicals and reviews, as well as classical literary productions. She was the former host of the television program "Marquee", an entertainment interview program on Toronto public access television. Her late husband, George Ruderfer, was the owner of a chain of Canadian beauty salons and a beauty supply company called Coventry Beauty Products. Together they had two daughters, Laura and Leila and a son, Bruce.
Ruderfer was also actively involved with Hadassah Wizo and wrote for the Orah magazine.

Accession consists of material documenting Brown family. Included are: business records, clippings, correspondence, eulogies, notes, an issue of the LIFE Institute's L.i.f.e.lines newsletter, photographs, résumés and cover letters, school records, and vital statistics. A significant amount of the material documents the donor's father, Jack Brown, a community leader in Brantford, Ontario, and friend of Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Of note are autographed pictures of Former Prime Ministers Pierre Elliott Trudeau and Jean Chrétien.
Administrative History
The son of Rose and William Brown, Jack Irving Brown was born in Toronto on January 4, 1926. His family moved to Brantford, Ontario when he was a boy. Upon graduating from high school, Jack went to work at his father's retail store. When he eventually bought the store, he renamed it Brown's of Brantford. In addition to running his business, Jack held leadership positions with the Beth David Congregation, Brant Liberal Association, and the Rotary Club of Brantford. Upon moving to Toronto, he became president of the LIFE Institute at Ryerson University.
Jack and Joy Brown (née Greenberg) had four children: Andrew, Marlene (1952-2007), Holli (b. 1954), and Harriette (b. 1958). Later in life, Jack and Joy separated. For the final years of his life, Jack's companion was Rheta Rhosen. Jack died on September 23, 1999.

Records include: theatre programs for stage productions Jacobson was involved in (1955-1958); a signed photograph of Sammy Sales addressed to Stan Jacobson and Mervyn Rosenzveig (1956?); a small amount of correspondence pertaining to Johnny Cash including a letter to the U.S. Consulate in Toronto from Cash commending Jacobson (1964-1968); one photocopy of a photograph of Frances Jacobson, Stan Jacobson, June Carter Cash, Johnny Cash, and three other individuals (197-?); a photograph of Jacobson with Arte Johnson (1973); a photocopy of an article that appeared in the Globe and Mail and that quotes Stan about Burton Cummings (1979); a commemorative coin from the Winter Olympic Games (1988); an artifact recognizing Stan Jacobson's participation in Alberta's Rocky Mountain Salute to the XV Olympic Winter Games (1988); and theatre/television credits for Jacobson (2005?).
Custodial History
Frances Jacobson, Stan Jacobson's widow, mailed the records that constitute the accession to Annie Matan who is responsible for Jewish Life and Family Engagement at Miles Nadal Jewish JCC. Annie in turn got the records to Dara Solomon who passed them to Michael Friesen to accession.
Administrative History
Stan Jacobson (1968-2015) was a Canadian television producer known for his work on the Wayne & Shuster Comedy Show 1965-1967), The Johnny Cash Show (1969-1971), the 1988 Winter Olympics, and the opening of the SkyDome (1989).
Stanley Jacobson was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on 23 June 1930 to Joseph and Sadie Jacobson. When Stan was young, the family moved to Montreal, which was his mother's hometown. Upon graduating high school, he attended Sir George Williams University, which, upon merging with Loyola College, eventually became Concordia University.
For a time, Stan worked in the rag trade, but eventually got involved in theatre. An early hit came in the form of Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? Stan succeeded in negotiating the rights to produce the stage comedy outside of New York while it was still running on Broadway, which he regarded as his proudest achievement. Not long after, he began working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a writer for several variety programs and even wrote and directed a documentary on the Battle of Britain that was released in 1966.
When Johnny Cash was invited to sing at the White House, he brought along Stan and his wife Frances as two of his guests.
When The Johnny Cash Show ended its run in 1971, Stan and his wife moved to Los Angeles only to return to Toronto a short time later. Thereafter, he commuted back and forth between LA and Toronto and worked on several programs for CTV. He also worked on a sitcom for ABC called Viva Valdez, but it was not a success.
Stan died in North York, Ontario on 1 Dec. 2015. He left behind his wife Frances; a sister-in-law, Grace; two nephews; two grand nephews; and one grand niece.

History
From 1933 to 1942, Weingluck lived in France and, during the Nazi occupation of France, was imprisoned in eight concentration camps from 1942 to 1945. The Nazis made use of his artistic talent as a barracks designer and portraitist. During this time, the Germans confiscated 375 of his paintings. After the war, Weingluck moved to Tangiers, Morocco, and then immigrated to Canada to join his brother in Toronto. Henry opened H. W. Art Gallery, at 665 College Street, around 1948, and then Weingluck's Art Gallery and Gift Shoppe at 623 College Street, in the 1950s. In 1950, he married his wife Rae (née Simon), whom he met in Canada. Henry died in Toronto in 1987.

Administrative History

She intially worked as a librarian at the City of Johannesburg Library and briefly left SA to seek opportunity in London. After returning from London, Ismé worked as a writer, researcher and editor with News/Check magazine until the mid-1960s. During this period, she participated in the production of "South Africa Speaks"; a Peabody Award-winning NET/WGBH produced documentary that was critical of the apartheid regime.
Bennie left SA in 1965 in search of professional opportunity and to leave the politics of apartheid. She began working primarily in public broadcasting in the United States. She continued in this field after relocating to Canada 1960s and rose to success in production at OECA,
In 1983, she founded Ismé Bennie International, a media distribution company. After it merged with production company Paragon, Bennie returned to broadcasting. She joined CHUM, (the Toronto-based media company), as Director of Development, rising to Director of Programming and Acquisitions in 1995, and that year won the (CFTPA) Jack Chisholm Award. Previously, she had received the CFTPA Personal Achievement Award in 1990. In 2003, Women in Film and Television – Toronto (WIFT–T) recognized her contribution to supporting and developing women in broadcasting, and she received the WIFT-T Outstanding Achievement Award. Canadian Television Network (CTV) acquired CHUM in 2007 and Bennie was one of the executives retained in the acquisition. Around 2010, Bennie left CTV. Since leaving she has done consulting work and freelance writing. In 2015, she published a memoir entitled, White Schooldays : Coming of Age in Apartheid South Africa.
