- Spiff Evans was publicity chief for the Maple Leaf Gardens during the 1940s and 1950s. Sam Shefsky was the manager of The Tip Tops softball team during the 1940s, when it won the world championships in Little Rock, Arkansas. He influenced the building of Exhibition Stadium built and was one of the driving forces behind bringing major league baseball to Toronto. Sam Shefsky's sister Jennie was married to Abe Magerman, a unionist with the ILGWU.

- Spencer Evans was the publicity chief for Maple Leaf Gardens during the 1940s and 1950s and in 1963, became the director of public relations for the Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club. Archie Wilson was an American baseball player who played in the major league for the New York Yankees, the Washington Senators and the Boston Red Sox, from 1951-1952. After this he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs baseball club.

- Accession consists of a small silver plate trophy presented each year by the United Jewish Welfare Fund to the division with the largest percentage of new givers. It was named after J. Irving Oelbaum, who was a former president of the fund. The first recipient division in 1945 was the Women's Division, followed by the University Students Division, the Metropolitan Division, Youth Division and the Young Men's Division.

- The custodial history of this item is unknown. It belonged to the United Jewish Welfare Fund and thus was most likely transferred to the Archives by UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. It was in a box at the back of the vault and was discovered during a sweep of the vault.

- Norman "Baby" Yack was born Benjamin Norman Yakubowitz in Toronto in 1915. As an amateur bantamweight boxer, Yack won over ninety of one hundred fights. In 1936, he opted out of competing in the Berlin Olympics as a protest to Nazi rule. Instead, he travelled to Barcelona with fellow Jewish boxer Sammy Luftspring to compete in the People's Olympics, which was cancelled at the last minute due to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. Later that year, Yack turned professional and, under the management of Steve Rocco, became the fourth ranked bantamweight in the world. Yack retired in Toronto. He died in 1987.
- Harry Sniderman was a well-known Toronto sportsman. In 1936, Sniderman organized the financial backing from the Canadian Jewish Congress that allowed himself, Sammy Luftspring, and Norman "Baby" Yack to go to Barcelona to participate in the People's Olympics. His role at the event was to act as coach and organizer for the athletes. Later in life he was the owner of the Warwick Hotel, which was located at the corner of Jarvis and Dundas Street.

- Eve Rosen Gordon was born in Russia in 1923. When she was three years old, her parents and paternal grandparents came to Canada with Eve's sister and brother. Her uncle Aaron Rosen had been in Kitchener, Ontario since 1903. His business was scrap metal, and Eve's father joined him in the work to pay off their tickets from Russia. Following that, he peddled with a horse and buggy. In 1933 he launched his own business, clearing and filling the swampy land by hand to build a multi-generation business, Rosen and Sons, which eventually moved into industrial waste.

- Administrative History
- Avraham Rosen was the patriarch of a Russian family that settled in Kitchener in the early twentieth century. His son Aaron Rosen came in 1903, raised a family, and established a successful rag and scrap metal business. Avraham and his wife Pesa came with their son Israel and his family in 1927. Avraham Rosen lived in Kitchener until his death in 1939. Israel's daughter Eve (the donor) still lives there.

- Grandchildren of Hyman and Annie Rosen confirmed that Jenny Cohen was Hyman Rosen's sister and Lily Finkelstein was Annie Rosen's sister. In addition, Hyman Rosen was the longest serving President of Beth Israel Congregation. Jenny Cohen owned a grocery store and dance hall in Kingston.

- This accession consists of material documenting the donor's family, particularly her father, Nathan Rivelis. The items include a vest and hat worn by her father during the late 1950s as part of the Lion's Club. It also consists of an oral history of her father conducted in 1983; his school primer and English reader; photographs of the business and Hebrew classes; certificates; and, finally, newspaper clippings.
- Administrative History
- The Rivelis family owned a large clothing store in North Bay from 1926 until 1986 called Rivelis. They sold men's and women's mid-range clothing and became famous in town for their annual sale held on 16 November. The business grew from a small family-run store to a large department store with twelve employees.
- In addition to running the business, Nate Rivelis was also involved in the local Lion's Club and was the president of this organization from 1957-1958. He was the only Jewish member at that time. In addition, he also served as the president of the Hebrew school during the 1940s.

- Administrative History
- Eve Rosen Gordon was born in Russia in 1923. When she was three years old, her parents and paternal grandparents came to Canada with Eve's sister and brother. Her uncle Aaron Rosen had been in Kitchener, Ontario, since 1903. His business was scrap metal, and Eve's father joined him in the work to pay off their tickets from Russia. Following that, he peddled with a horse and buggy. In 1933, he launched his own business, clearing and filling the swampy land by hand to build a multi-generation business, Rosen and Sons, which eventually moved into industrial waste.

- Biography
- Rheta Rosen (née Rosen) was the daughter of Nathan Rivelis, the owner of Rivelis, a large clothing store in North Bay from 1926 until 1986. The business grew from a small, family-run store into a large department store employing between twenty-five and thirty people. The store was famous for their annual sale held yearly on 16 November. Rheta became a full-time professor in family studies at Ryerson University. She was coordinator of the Learning and Teaching Office and coordinator of the Interpersonal Skills Teaching Centre, Simulation Program. Rheta's area of interest and research lay in the area of intergenerational relationships in the older family. She was a family mediator focusing on issues in the older family, adult children, and their ageing parents. Rheta Rosen died on 22 August 2016.

- Joseph Addison was an active member of the Brunswick Street YMHA and its executive committee member. He also held the position of vice president and chair of the board. Addison was a handball enthusiast and was the first chair of the Canadian Handball Association. Joseph Addison was a judge.

- The accession consists of six photographs of the Rosen family of Kitchener. The pictures are all portraits involving multiple generations of the family taken between 1912 and 1944. The people pictured include Aaron J. Rosen, his parents, his children, and one with his brother Israel Rosen. There is also a Certificate of Canadian Citizenship issued to Aaron Rosen. It is dated 1951, however it makes reference to his naturalization in 1911. Later documents include a copy of the Rosen-Shpizel family tree, and a letter written by the donor recounting her mother's reminiscences of life in Kitchener. The letter was written to accompany photographs that the donor loaned to Mr. Donald Bierstock in Kitchener, who was compiling a history of Beth Jacob congregation for its 75th anniversary.
- Custodial History
- The photographs belonged to Aaron Rosen's daughter Mary until she passed them on to her son in the early 1990s. He gave them to his sister Phyllis, the donor, in July 2009.
- Administrative History
- Aaron J. Rosen (1879-1973) was born in Checholia, Russia, the son of Avraham Zvi Rosen and Pesa Cohn. He was the first of his family to come to Canada, in 1903. He came ahead of his wife Sima Leah (1873-1948), and their son Irving (d. 1962). In Kitchener, Aaron established himself in the peddling business, founding Rosen Rag & Metal. After his wife and son joined him, they had two more children, Mary (1908-1996) and Joseph (1906-1916). Joseph died of diphtheria at the age of ten. He was one of the first to be buried in the Beth Jacob Cemetery.
- Aaron Rosen was one of the founders of Beth Jacob Congregation in 1908, and was among those who signed the mortgage for the synagogue in 1924. The family rented a house at 156 Church Street, and later lived next to the Rosen Rag & Metal warehouse at 123 Strange Street. In 1927, Aaron brought over his brother Israel with his family and their parents.
- In 1938, Aaron's daughter, Mary Rosen, married Ben Coles. They settled in Toronto. They had two children, Alan and Phyllis (the donor). Irving Rosen married Tillie Minsky and his children (in the photos) are Estelle and Gerry.
- Sima Leah Rosen predeceased Aaron, and when he was 70 he remarried, wedding Rebecca (usually called Bayla) Kaplan (grandmother of Robert Kaplan, MP and Attorney General). The marriage was religious but not civil. Aaron Rosen died at the age of 93 in 1973. He is buried next to his first wife at Roselawn Cemetery in Toronto.
