On July 11, 1933 over 15,000 people (mostly Jewish and working class) walked off the job to protest Nazism, fascism, and other human rights issues. Reported in the Globe and Mail as the largest protest of its kind in Canada since the 1919 Winnipeg general strike, a united front of all the needle trade unions and over fifty Jewish organizations took part.
Scope and Content
Item is a photograph of an International Left Opposition (ILO) demonstration depicting a large group of protestors walking carrying banners. This is likely the large anti-fascist protest, which took place in Toronto on July 11, 1933.

Mrs. Szmuklerman was possibly from Ostrowiec, Poland. Her grandparents were named Chil and Hindle. She and her husband, Tanchen, were living in the American occupied zone of Munich in the mid-1940s.
Scope and Content
File consists of a letter from Mrs. Szmuklerman in Munich, Germany, to an aunt and uncle, dated 29 July 1946. In this letter, she provides details about her family background and writes about family members sent to the camps during the war. She mentions her recent marriage and writes that her husband's family has sent them emigration paperwork with the hope that they will be able to travel to America. She writes that she and her husband are living with her uncle Kril and his children and requests that the recipients write to them. An envelope with multiple stamps and postmarks is included. File also contains a typed translation.

Khane Dimnik was likely from Ostrowiec, Poland, and was living in Pilawa Górna, Poland, in the mid-to-late 1940s.
Scope and Content
File consists of a letter from Mrs. Dimnik-Goldman in Poland to Max Hartstone, dated 2 January 1947. The writer thanks Max for his recent letter and for the received money. She writes about conditions in Poland, her husband's job, and the cost of living. She requests assistance from Max and passes along greetings from her family. File also contains a typed translation.
