Scope and Content
Series contains records of immigrant arrivals in Canada from 1949 through 1986. The "sailings" files are basically passenger lists from Atlantic voyages between 1949 and 1953 that brought immigrants to Canada. These lists are marked, showing which immigrants were sponsored by JIAS. Not all of the immigrants were Jews. Information included indicates the ship name; date and place of departure; date and place of arrival; names of passengers; their children and ages; sponsors and their address. Some lists include age, sex, occupation and destination information for sponsor or immigrant. The later "record of arrivals" files (1959 to 1986) contain lists, letters, telegrams and memoranda, as well as "agency notification cards" that list the immigrant arriving, citizenship and destination (sponsor) in Canada, and number of dependents. The series is arranged in chronological order.
Access Restriction
Closed. Researchers must receive permission from the OJA director prior to accessing the records.
Physical Condition
Records are foxed, some have rust or water stains.
Arrangement
Series has been arranged by the archivist in a combination of two previous series. The original "Sailings" series (MG2 I1a I) was arranged in two separate groups, the first of sailings for which JIAS had an official number (these numbers are still on the folders), and the second of those without a number. These two groups have been integrated into a single chronological series. The Record of Arrivals files were formerly part of the MG2 I1a K2 series, "Immigrant Files - Administration, Projects."

Scope and Content
Sub-series consists of the Research files of the Community Relations Committee, and has been divided into separate categories in a further 9 sub-sub-series; Civil liberties, Elections, Israel, Religious education in the public schools, Government funding of Jewish day schools, Hate crimes and hate literature, War crimes and criminals, Small Ontario Jewish communities, and General office records. For more detailed descriptions of these, please view scope and contents notes at the sub-sub-series level.
Notes
Previously processed and cited as part of MG8 S.
Related Material
Library and Archives of Canada holds the records for the National B’nai Brith which contains 30cm of material on the National Joint Community Relations Committee. The Canadian Jewish Congress National Archives in Montreal holds the records for the National Joint Community Relations Committee, which contains some files on the Ontario Region, as they reported to the National office. The whereabouts of the B’nai Brith records pertaining to the Central Region activities are currently unknown.
Arrangement
Because records in this sub-series had previously been organized in a manner that proved impossible for use by archivists and researchers, they have been totally rearranged and described to comply with RAD standards, to provide ease of access by researchers, and to fully reflect the activities and organizational history of the Community Relations Committee of the Canadian Jewish Congress during and after the period when it was a joint committee with the B'Nai Brith.

Scope and Content
File consists of images taken at the Toronto airport upon the arrival of Rabbi Yehuda Horowitz (Reb 'Yidele' Stitshiner) of Stitshin and later the Stitshiner Rav in Brooklyn.
The images depict Rabbi Horowitz being greeted at the airport and Rabbi Horowitz and his family leaving the airport in a car. One photograph depicts Rabbi Horowitz and Rabbi Shlomo Langner of Toronto seated in a car.
Notes
Title note: This photograph was originally identified as Rabbi Dovid Flam of Montreal, the brother-in-law of Rabbi Shlomo Langner. This was contested by a family member who stated that Rabbi Flam died in Israel in 1971 after living there for several years and did not make a trip to Toronto in 1970. Further verification determined that the rabbi pictured is actually Rabbi Yehuda Horowitz of Brooklyn (later London, England).
