- Janice Gross Stein was born in 1943 and is a prominent Toronto-based academic and professor, having been (since 2000) the Belzberg Professor of Conflict Management in the Department of Political Science and the director of the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario.
- Erwin Schild was born on 9 March 1920 in Germany, the son of Herman and Hetti. He arrived in Canada from Great Britain on 15 July 1940 aboard the SS Sobiesky and was interned with nearly three thousand other wartime refugees. He was eventually ordained by Yeshivah Torath Chaim, Toronto, and served as rabbi of the Adath Israel Congregation from 1947 to 1989. He married Laura Saxe, and, together, they have three children: Herman, Hedy, and Naomi. He has written about his experiences in "World Through My Window" and "The Very Narrow Bridge: A Memoir of an Uncertain Passage." In 2001, he was made a member of the Order of Canada.
