The following caption appears on verso: "23rd Anniversary of the Execution of the Soviet-Jewish Poets, Novelists and Artists. Tuesday, August 12, 1975. Youth Chapel, Beth Tzedec Synagogue, Toronto. Sam N. Filer, Chairman, Steering Committee for Soviet Jewry addressing the gathering." According to a Toronto Star article that appeared shortly after Filer's death, Filer was a judge and "legal icon" who had "helped persecuted Jewish citizens of the former Soviet Union."

Item is a programme for a community assembly titled the 23rd Anniversary of the Execution of the Soviet Jewish Poets, Novelists and Artists. The community assembly took place at the youth chapel at Beth Tzedec Synagogue (1700 Bathurst Street). Item is a three-page biography of Russian-Jewish poet Peretz Markish (1895–1952). Markish wrote predominantly in Yiddish. Markish was shot and killed alongside other Jewish writers during the Night of the Murdered Poets in August 1952.

Item is a program event for a commemorative evening in honour of "24 leading Jewish poets, writers, and intellectual public figures [who] were executed in the basement of Moscow's Lubianka [Lubyanka] Prison" on 12 August 1959. The evening was to take place on 12 August 1973 at 8:30 p.m. in the Samuel Bronfman house, which was located at 1590 McGregor Street. The second page of the document is in Yiddish.

Item is a letter to Yiddish poet Israel Emiot from Samuel Resnick, the assistant executive director. In the letter, which is dated 18 July 1975, Resnick confirms "the invitation extended to you [i.e., Emiot] by the Steering Committee for Soviet Jewry and the Committee for Yiddish of Canadian Jewish Congress, Central Region who are this year sponsoring jointly a memorial meeting to commemorate the death of the Soviet-Jewish writers in Russia in 1951."

Admin History/Bio
Carl Keyfetz was born in 1907 to Leah and Mark Keyfetz, who was a Toronto Jewish pioneer arriving in 1887. Carl was co-founder of the 59th Toronto Troup in 1921, the first Jewish Boy Scout Troup in Ontario. He was the superintendent at the McCaul Street Synagogue and first principal at the St. Clair Avenue Synagogue. President of the Toronto Lodge, B'nai Brith in 1939, he also founded Guelph Lodge in 1941 and Empire Lodge in 1946. He was extremely involved in the Toronto Jewish community and sat on numerous committees and boards.

Item is a photograph of (left to right) Min Givens, Phil Givens, and Carl Keyfetz eating dinner at the Moulin Rouge restaurant. The Moulin Rouge Restaurant was owned by Irme Finta, and was located at Avenue Road and Dupont Street in Toronto.

Johnny Barbalinardo Lombardi was born in Toronto in 1915 (died 2002). He fought in The Second World War, and in the years after his return he started several supermarkets in the Little Italy section of Toronto. In the 1960s, he founded the multilingual radio stations CHIN in 1966 and CHIN-FM in 1967. Later in his life, he was honoured by the Canadian government, becoming a recipient of the Order of Canada (an honour facilitated by Justice Phil Givens).
