Sol Edell was involved in a variety of religious, educational and cultural organizations. Not only did he make financial donations to organizations, but he also became personally involved and organized specific projects. As well, representatives of foreign institutions would stay at his home when they came to Toronto on speaking engagements or fundraising missions.
Scope and Content
Sub-series consists of awards that relate to Sol Edell’s fundraising efforts on behalf of “Yeshiva Hatalmid” and for hosting speakers and fundraisers who were visiting Toronto. Also included is a day book listing community meetings as well as family events. As well, there is correspondence relating to an item loaned to the Baycrest Heritage Museum, and a plaque.

Rose and David Dunkelman, Benjamin Dunkelman's parents, were staunch supporters of Toronto's Zionist community. David was a leader of the Zionist Organization of Canada for more than 50 years, while Rose was publisher and first managing editor of the Jewish Standard, a Toronto-based Zionist magazine she founded with her husband. In addition, she was the first vice-president of the Hadassah Organization of Canada and president of the Hadassah Organization of Ontario. Both fervently supported Zionist projects.
Scope and Content
Sub-series consists of photographs, clippings, obituaries, correspondence and biographical information in connection with Rose, David and Ben Dunkelman. The sub-series contains a pamphlet from the Toronto Zionist Council in 1957 celebrating the council’s 50th anniversary and praising Rose Dunkelman. There are also copies of articles about Rose Dunkelman by H.M. Kaiserman and Meyer W. Weisgal.

Examples are a pledge to UJA, a donation to the Jewish Public Library, a pledge to Bialik Hebrew Day School Building Fund Campaign, and an acknowledgement of a donation to Beth Jacob High School. Other organizations who received donations are Jewish Labour Committee, Toronto Workmen's Circle and Hebrew National Association. There are three certificates issued by the Jewish Natioanl Fund acknowledging a tree planted in Israel, two certificates in honour of Lipa Green, and one in memory of Bella Gladman, Lipa's sister.

Sol Edell attended Harbord Collegiate and was an honours student winning awards in several extra curricular activities. His children and grandchildren also excelled scholastically while attending a variety various Jewish parochial schools in Toronto such as the Associated Hebrew Day Schools, Eitz Chaim, Netivot Hatorah and Yeshivat Bnei Akiva Or Chaim Ulpanat Orot.
Scope and Content
Sub-series consists of material relating to the educational and recreational activities of the Edell family. There are newspaper clippings relating to Sol Edell’s participation in the Harbord Collegiate’s First Aid team and a University of Toronto graduation photograph. Sub-series includes correspondence, notices and booklets from his sisters’ and children’s elementary, high school and university graduation commencement exercises. File consists of photographs of J. B. Salsberg at family events. Included is one photograph of Salsberg with his wife, Dora Wilensky, and relatives at an unknown event, and one photograph of Salsberg delivering a speech at Karen Faith (née Salsberg)'s wedding. Karn, the daughter of Molly and Sam Salsberg, was one of four children along with Barry, Stan, and Gerry.

Scope and Content
File consists of family photographs. Included is a portrait of Rabbi Joseph Weinreb (ca. 1900), the first Eastern European Rabbi in Toronto and head of the Galacian community in Toronto, a portrait of Mrs. Weinberg (1921), and a photograph of Sol Edell's girlfriend, Lillian Hollinger at Niagara Falls (1948). Also included is a photograph of Sol's parents and Dolly Edell at an unidentified event, and of Sol's cousin, David Yaffe (third from the left), being honoured with colleagues upon retiring as a tailor from the ladies garment industry.

File also consists of correspondence regarding contributions to Harbord Collegiate as an alumni.
Physical Condition
Sol Edell's diploma is rolled and should be flattened. The cover of the issue of Harbord Review has torn apart from the rest of the book.
