The item is a postcard portrait of Lazar (Louis) Rottenberg and his grandsons, Herbie in front and Lou Cohen on the right. It was taken in a Toronto studio and the boys were dressed up in U.S. naval outfits, with Lou perched on a toy horse.
These were the children of Esther Rottenberg Cohen. Their birth dates are uncertain but the couple were married in 1910 and likely had them soon after their nuptuals.

Ben Simon (1906-1996) was born in Toronto and worked as a tailor. His family, mother Etta (1874 -1967) and father Ephraim (Frederick) (1876-1938) immigrated from Russia to Canada in 1904. Silblings include, Rae (1904-1987), Leah (1905-1976), Helen (1911-1986), Albert (1913-2003), Irving (1915-1999) and George (1919-1981). Ben married Susan (Givertz) (1915-2000) and together they had one son, Fred Simon.
