Lipman Walters was from Holland. The family name was originally Wolters.
His father had died of wounds fighting in the Dutch army against Napoleon. His mother was given the choice of a widow's pension or a lump sum. She took the latter and settled in Philadelphia with 5 children.
Lipman later settled in Toronto where he was an early member of Holy Blossom. He married Marianne Segaar.
