Admin History/Bio
The Primrose Club was founded in Toronto in 1907 as the Cosmopolitan Club, an elite Jewish men's social club. In 1959, the club's building at 41 Willcocks Street was expropriated by the University of Toronto (and currently houses the university's Faculty Club), and the club subsequently moved to a new building at Russell Road & St. Clair, designed by Kaplan & Sprachman. It has since been demolished and a condominium has been put up in its place by Ken Rotenberg, a Toronto developer.

Admin History/Bio
Max Shecter was born on July 7, 1923 to Joseph and Helen Shecter. He was married to Florence Fox and they had three children named: Trudy, Debbie and Barry. Max Shecter was the Secretary -Treasurer for Toronto Bedding Company Limited. He was an active member of the Toronto Jewish Community and was affiliated with the following organizations: Beth Sholom Congregation, United Synagogues of America, B'nai Brith, Israel Bond Organization, Joint Community Relations Committee, Canadian Jewish Congress, Zionist Organization of Canada and United Jewish Appeal's Furniture division.. Max Shecter was honoured with a Beth Sholom Israel Bond Dinner for dedicated leadership and by Upper Canada Lodge, B'nai Brith in 1959.
Scope and Content
File consists of one photograph of Phil Givens' retirement party at the Bonaventure Hotel in Montreal. Identified in the photograph are (left to right): Min Givens, Phil Givens, and Max Shecter.

Admin History/Bio
Max Shecter was born on July 7, 1923 to Joseph and Helen Shecter. He was married to Florence Fox and they had three children named: Trudy, Debbie and Barry. Erwin Schild was born March 9th 1920 in Germany, the Son of Herman and Hetti. He arrived in Canada from Great Britain on July 15, 1940 aboard the S.S. Sobiesky and was interned with nearly 3,000 other wartime refugees. He was eventually ordained by Yeshivah Torath Chaim, Toronto, and served as Rabbi of the Adath Israel Congregation from 1947 to 1989. He married Laura Saxe and together they have three children: Herman, Hedy, and Naomi. He has written about his experiences in "World Through My Window" and "The very narrow bridge: a memoir of an uncertain passage." In 2001 he was made a Member of the Order of Canada.
Scope and Content
File consists of textual records and photographs documenting Phil Givens’ retirement dinner. Included are a community tribute booklet, communal certificate, tribute dinner programme, and 31 photographs of the ceremony. Identified in the photographs are Min and Phil Givens, Art Eggleton, Max Shecter, Roy McMurty, Pat and Herb Alpert, Mirial Small, Cecily and David Peters, Irving Matlow, Alex Grossman, Florence Cooper, Joe Garfinkel, Sam Seetner, Syd Cooper, Cantor J. Scope and Content
Series consists of textual records and other material documenting Phil Givens’ activities as chairman of the Metropolitan Toronto Police Commission from 1977 to 1985. The textual records include messages of congratulations, general correspondence, speeches, and reports. The graphic material includes official portraits as well as snapshots documenting various police activities and events. Also included is a video cassette of a “sailpast” commemorating the merger of the harbour and port police forces with the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force in June 1983 as well as a video cassette of the retirement dinner for Givens held at the Island Yacht Club in July 1985.
The series has been arranged into three sub-series: 5-1. Metropolitan Toronto Police Board of Commissioners; 5-2. Publicity; and 5-3. Official engagements.

Scope and Content
Series consists of records related to Phil Givens’ work as an MP for the federal riding of York West in Toronto and a small amount related to Givens’ earlier failed election attempt in the Spadina riding. The records include campaign material, correspondence, photographs, a video cassette featuring Givens' at the Houses of Parliament and an oversized composite print of the members of the House of Commons for 1968. Of note are images of Givens participating in a parliamentary delegation to the United Nations, attending the Sir Casimir Gzowski Monument dedication, and visiting NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center. Also included is a small number of photographs of Givens at events hosted or attended by national political figures, such as former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. Givens' attendance at such events occurred outside of his time in national office, but are associated with his role as a federal MP.

Scope and Content
Series consists of textual records and graphic material documenting Phil Givens' involvement with the Jewish community. In particular, the textual records include general correspondence, speeches and convention materials documenting his role as national president of the Canadian Zionist Federation and his involvement with many other Jewish organizations. The records also consist of certificates, scrapbooks, objects, photographs of various events within the community as well as photographic albums presented to Givens on the occasion of his 1968 Jewish National Fund Negev dinner and his 1985 Canadian Zionist Federation testimonial dinner.

File consists of photographs of Phil, Min, and family. Included are photographs of Phil and Min at parties or family celebrations, such as a costume New Year's Eve party, Passover dinner, and a bar mitzvah, Phil with his daughter and grandson at work as a judge, portraits of Min around their home and out at the theatre, and family portraits of Phil, Min and their children, Eleanor, and Michael. Some photographs were used for Givens's 1957 federal election campaign.
