Scope and Content
Accession consists of one copy print of a photograph taken circa 1942. The photograph depicts the congregation of the B'nai Moses ben Judah Synagogue in London, Ontario, standing in front of the synagogue. Murray Brickman, the late husband of the donor, is pictured as a child in the second row on the far right, wearing a cap.
Custodial History
This item was in the possession of Elaine Brickman. It was mailed to Stan Federman who subsequently gave it to the Ontario Jewish Archives.
Administrative History
The London Jewish community had a single congregation until disagreements led to Moses Leff organizing an alternative minyan. This became Congregation B'nai Moses Ben Judah, named after Moses Pollock. Their first synagogue building, a remodelled wooden church, opened in 1907. This building was supplanted by a new and enlarged structure in 1924. The building was renovated and enlarged again in 1955 but did retain some elements of the old structure. In 1966, B'nai Moses Ben Judah amalgamated with B'nai Israel, and consequently, Congregation Or Shalom was created. The B'nai Israel building was chosen to house the new congregation and the the B'nai Moses building was sold to the Roman Catholic Diocese of London.

Accession consists of photographs from a B'nai Israel Congregation Purim carnival.
Responsibility
Photographs by Lou Lessin, London, Ont.
Administrative History
In 1899, London established its first permanent synagogue at the corner of Richmond and Simcoe Streets. The B'nai Israel Congregation operated from this location until 1917. With the rapid influx of Jewish residents at the turn of century, the congregation eventually relocated to the site of a former church located at the corner of Wellington and Grey. B'nai Israel operated from this new home until 1960. On September 11, 1960, B'nai Israel Congregation consecrated its new purpose built synagogue at the then northern border of the city. Praised for its ultramodern design, the synagogue complex designed by architect Philip Carter Johnson, housed a school, social hall and youth centre.

Administrative History
Morton (Mort) Ainsley (1937-1995) was born in London, Ontario to Esther and Irving Ainsley. Esther (née Rash) was born in Toronto and Irving in Russia; the two met at Stitsky’s textile store on Bathurst Street in Toronto and moved to London in the 1940s. In London, Irving Ainsley owned Ainsley’s dress store and was a co-founder and president of B’nai Israel congregation. The family were friends with the Siskinds and Rubinoffs, going on fishing trips with the Rubinoffs and cruises with others in the Jewish community. Irving loved to film, and filmed Second World War newsreels in the movie theatre.
Morton graduated from the University of Western Ontario School of Business Administration, and then the University of Toronto Law School in 1962. Following graduation, he worked at the Department of Justice and at Minden, Gross, Grafstein and Greenstein. In 1969, he and Sandra Gula were married at Beth Tzedec Synagogue. They had three children, Efrem, Andrew, and Daniel. He died in September 1995 at Toronto General Hospital.

History
Camp Gesher’s small size is central to the spirit of the camp where a culture of acceptance, individuality and mutual respect is fostered. The camp philosophy revolves around socialist ideals and its structure is similar to that of a kibbutz. Hebrew is used in day-to-day conversation and there are many opportunities to learn about Jewish and Israeli history and culture. There is a kosher kitchen and Shabbat and Havdalah are celebrated.
