- At the time of the donation, Sam's job title was director, arts, culture & heritage. Her department was Community Capacity Building.
- Administrative History
- The Arts, Culture & Heritage Committee of UJA Federation oversaw a strategy to fund and support Jewish cultural institutions, programs and initiatives that offered meaningful connections to Jewish identity and engagement. The committee considered programs that included (but were not limited to) the realms of visual arts, music, literature, dance, film, and theatre.
- The following seven agencies fell within the scope of the committee: Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre (UJA); the Ontario Jewish Archives, Blankenstein Family Heritage Centre (UJA); the Toronto Jewish Film Festival; the Ashkenaz Festival; the Committee for Yiddish; the Koffler Centre of the Arts; and the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Committee.
- The committee reported to UJA's Community Capacity Building Committee (CCBC), which oversees UJA's investments in the Greater Toronto Area. The CCBC is accountable to UJA's board of directors.
- The Kultura Collective is a network of modern Jewish arts, culture, and heritage organizations that coalesced to create the collective. The name is inspired by the Kultur-Lige, an interwar collective that promoted Jewish culture and community across eastern Europe and that was destroyed at the height of its reach and impact. Members of the collective include Ashkenaz; the Canadian-Israel Cultural Foundation; the Committee for Yiddish; the Consulate General of Israel in Toronto; Fentster; the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company; Jewish Music Week; the Koffler Centre of the Arts; the Miles Nadal JCC; the Ontario Jewish Archives, Blankenstein Family Heritage Centre; the Prosserman JCC; the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre; the Schwartz/Reisman Centre; and the Toronto Jewish Film Foundation.

- Accession consists of materials transferred from UJA Federation of Greater Toronto's Community Capacity Building department. Included are a number of documents put together by Lord Cultural Resources: a phase-one report titled "UJA: Cultural Components of Central Campus Redevelopment Project" that is dated May 2004, an exhibit master plan on the National Centre for Jewish Heritage (NCJH) that is undated, an interpretative plan on the NCJH that is dated August 2009, a business plan on the NCJH that is dated December 2009, and an interim report on the Jewish Museum of Canada that is dated 20 December 2013. Also included are a small number of financial documents related to Aish HaTorah and the Ontario Jewish Archives, as well as an itinerary for UJA's Centennial Journey to Israel, which took place from 31 October 2017-8 November 2017. Lastly, there is a demographics report issued by UIA Canada's National Task Force on Jewish Demographics that relates demographic information about Jewish Toronto in 2021; the latter is dated 29 June 2009.

- David Matlow is the owner of the world’s largest private collection of Theodor Herzl memorabilia and is the producer of My Herzl, a 52 minute documentary by Israeli film maker Eli Tal-El. A partner at Goodmans LLP in Toronto, David was the co-chair, together with Andrea Cohen, of Toronto’s 2015 Campaign for the United Jewish Appeal.

- Accession consists of twelve photographs of posters taken by the donor in Midtown, Toronto, and near Bathurst and Sheppard Streets in North York. The photographs were taken between 6 and 8 November 2023, approximately one month after the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and the start of the 2023 Israel-Hamas war. Many of the photographs depict Israeli citizens taken hostage by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups.
- Six of the photographs are of posters disseminated by the #KidnappedFromIsrael campaign (https://www.kidnappedfromisrael.com). Of the seven Kidnapped from Israel posters photographed—one photograph depicts two posters—three of which were vandalized. The vandalism on the first Kidnapped from Israel poster reads, "IDF soldier." The vandalism on the second Kidnapped from Israel poster reads, "Israeli terrorism is not OK!" The vandalism on the fifth Kidnapped from Israel poster reads, "3000 dead Palestinians."
- Two of the photographs are of posters disseminated by UJA Federation of Greater Toronto's #NoRoomForTerror campaign (https://www.instagram.com/noroomforterror). Neither of the #NoRoomForTerror posters appear to have been vandalized, although one is torn in half. It is unclear if this was done intentionally.
- Two of the photographs are of posters with the message "HAMASISIS" and the hashtag #BringThemHomeNOW. Of the two HAMASISISIS posters photographed, both were vandalized. The vandalism on the first HAMASISIS poster appears to read, "10k dead Palestinians." The vandalism on the second HAMASISISIS poster appears to read, "Israel is terroris[m/t]."
- Lastly, there is a photograph of a small poster tied to the Forgotten Echo Instagram page. The latter's message reads, "It costs Canadian taxpayers $33,000 to kill one baby in Gaza. Take action." On this poster is a QR code that links to a petition to the prime minister of Canada calling upon the prime minister "to take the necessary measures to address the Israel-Palestine conflict."

In addition, there is material documenting the activities of the Kehillah of Toronto, a religious organization of synagogues and organizations, such as mutual benefit societies. Included are correspondence, a ballot page listing congregations and organizations, a financial report, and a legal document in the form of an agreement between the Kehilla of Toronto and shochtim regarding the ritual slaughter of beef.

- The records were in the possession of Susan Jackson, currently an Executive Philanthropic Officer with the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and the former Executive Director of the (Latner) Centre for Jewish Knowledge and Heritage.
- Administrative History
- The Latner Centre for Jewish Knowledge and Heritage was created in 2005 as an entity of the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. It included the Ontario Jewish Archives, the Holocaust Centre, the Latner Library, Jewish Information Service of Greater Toronto, and the Jewish media and pedagogic libraries. The Latner Centre then became the Centre for Jewish Knowledge and Heritage and eventually disbanded in 2008.

- Accession consists of a Tip Top Tailors wall clock and five tzedakah boxes from Israel. Also included is a postcard of the Mossington Park resort on Lake Simcoe featuring a Gentiles Only sign, several copies from the mid-1940s of the CJC Committee on Social and Economic Studies Information and Comment bulletins, as well as a programme for the twenty-seventh anniversary celebrations for the Soviet Union, held at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1944. The program included a message from the prime minister, W. L. MacKenzie King, and a broadcast from Paul Robeson. The master of ceremonies was Lorne Greene. The content of the CJC studies include: research projects of the CJC (1946), racial discrimination and public policy (1946), the use of the terms "racial origin" and "religion" in the Canadian census (1946), opinion polls and social control (1946), intermarriage and children of intermarriages (1946), prejudice and Canadian unity (1946), comparative occupational distribution (1947), community action versus racial prejudice (1947), audience reaction analysis to the film "Don't Be a Sucker" (1947), Fair Employment Practices Laws for Canada (1947), age distribution of Jewish population in Ontario (1949), Immigration of Jews to Canada (1948), Saskatchewan Bill of Rights Act (1949), Jews in the professions in Canada (1949), answering the bigot: a summary of the Incident control project (1949), Canadian public opinion on racial restrictive covenants (1949), anti-minority discrimination and the law: a Canadian progress report (1950), immigration to Canada 1945 to 1949: official figures, refugee industries in Canada: latest available statistics (1947), and from juvenile immigrant to Canadian citizen (1950). - This accession primarily consists of photographs documenting the events and activities of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, as well as the staff and lay leadership. The events pictured include missions, rallies, fly-ins, telethons, Major Gifts dinners, March of the Living, and Birthright. They also include Campaign divisions like Women’s Division, Young Accountants, and Young Leadership and its program Hands On Toronto ("HOT”). Organizations include Knesseth Israel Synagogue, JCC, the Zaglembier and Ostrovtzer societies, and Bernard Betel Centre. One cubic foot box consists entirely of photographs of Israel @ 50 programs including the “Night of a Lifetime.” There is also a large Israel @ 50 scrapbook of clippings, programs, and feature articles. Two boxes of photographs contain portraits filed by name.
- There is a small amount of textual records in the accession, which include binders of newsclippings and brochures kept by the Creative Department, Tomorrow Campaign folios and booklets, and Central Campus vision documents from 2002. As well, there are sixty-eight CDs and DVDs, most of which are promotional videos relating to the Tomorrow Campaign and other UJA campaigns. There are also DVDs of 2008 UJA Big Ideas Forum and one cassette tape of the 2002 annual Lion of Judea luncheon. Finally, there is a DVCam cassette of the 2006 Campaign Closing celebration.

There are also a number of copies of archival photographs of Israel from 1948 to 1973.

- Biography
- Benjamin "Ben" Gershon Kayfetz was born on 24 December 1916 in Toronto. He married Eva Silver and had two children. Ben graduated from the University of Toronto in 1939, with a bachelor of arts in modern languages. He worked as a high school teacher in Huntsville, Ontario and Niagara Falls, Ontario between 1941 and 1943. In 1943, he joined the war effort, working for the Department of National Defense in postal censorship and was responsible for reviewing prisoner of war mail. After the war, Kayfetz traveled to British-occupied Germany, where he worked as a censor of telecommunications with the Control Commission until 1947. Upon returning to Toronto, he was hired as the national director of community relations by the Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC) and as the executive (national) director of the Joint Community Relations Committee (JCRC), a CJC-B'nai B'rith cooperative organization. He also served as the central region executive director of the CJC between 1973 and 1978. He worked to develop anti-discrimination laws and for the protection of minority and religious rights. Kayfetz was also actively involved in promoting the welfare of Jewish communities worldwide. He was awarded the Samuel Bronfman Medal by the Canadian Jewish Congress in 1985 and the Order of Canada in 1986. In addition to his professional activities, Kayfetz wrote articles for various Jewish publications under both his own name and the pseudonym Gershon B. Newman. He also gave a weekly radio address on CHIN radio addressing various contemporary Jewish issues and was actively involved in the Toronto Jewish Historical Society (serving as its president), the Canadian Jewish Historical Society, and the Yiddish Luncheon Circle. He died in 2002.

- Biography
- Arthur Gelber was born on 22 June 1915 in Toronto. He was educated at Upper Canada College. He married Esther Salomon and had four daughters. Arthur was actively involved in Jewish and general community activity. Among his accomplishments, Arthur served as chair of the National Arts Centre Corporation, chair of the Advisory Council Ontario Cabinet, past president of the Canadian Conference of the Arts, past president of the National Ballet, Board of Directors of the American Council for the Arts, Ballet Opera House, National Ballet, Stratford Festival, life director of the National Theatre School of Canada, governor of National Theatre School of Canada, former honorary chair of the Performing Arts Development Fund, and former governor of York University, trustee of the AGO, decorated with the Order of Canada, recipient of the Centennial medal in 1967, Diploma D’honneur 1978, Queen’s Jubilee Medal, vice-president of America-Israel Cultural Foundation, executive of Canadian Jewish Congress, president of Toronto Zionist Council, president of United Jewish Welfare Fund, second chair of the UJA in 1949, chair of the United Jewish Relief Agency, and chair of the United Jewish Appeal.
