Scope and Content: Accession consists of Canadian Jewish Congress records related to a study carried out by Saul Hayes and Jacob Finkelman on discriminatory employment practices in Ontario. The title of the resulting report is "Evidence of Unequal Opportunity in Employment and a Suggested Fair Employment Practices Legislation". Included are reports, memorandi, correspondence, sample applications from different employers, and a booklet by Gurston Allen entitled "Jewish Occupational Difficulties" (1939).

Scope and Content: Accession consists of material relating to the Associated Hebrew Schools, including correspondence and a certificate awarded to the school choir. In addition there is a Canadian Jewish Congress Central Region timeline of the history of the Toronto Jewish Community (1954), a CJC abstract of the proceedings of the Sixth Regional Conference on Jewish Education (1957), as well as editions of the Jewish Herald, the Jewish Standard, and the Canadian Jewish News. In addition, there is material documenting the activities of the Kehillah of Toronto, a religious organization of synagogues and organizations, such as mutual benefit societies. Included are correspondence, a ballot page listing congregations and organizations, a financial report, and a legal document in the form of an agreement between the Kehilla of Toronto and shochtim regarding the ritual slaughter of beef.

Administrative History: Samuel Kurtz was the executive vice president of the Associated Hebrew Schools.

Scope and Content: This accession consists of records related to the work of Susan Jackson as the Executive Director of the Latner Center for Jewish Knowledge and Heritage. The records include planning documents, summaries and reports, budgets and meeting minutes.

Custodial History: The records were in the possession of Susan Jackson, currently an Executive Philanthropic Officer with the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and the former Executive Director of the (Latner) Centre for Jewish Knowledge and Heritage.

Administrative History: The Latner Centre for Jewish Knowledge and Heritage was created in 2005 as an entity of the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. It included the Ontario Jewish Archives, the Holocaust Centre, the Latner Library, Jewish Information Service of Greater Toronto, and the Jewish media and pedagogic libraries. The Latner Centre then became the Centre for Jewish Knowledge and Heritage and eventually disbanded in 2008.

Scope and Content: Accession consists of a Tip Top Tailors wall clock and five tzedakah boxes from Israel. Also included is a postcard of the Mossington Park resort on Lake Simcoe featuring a Gentiles Only sign, several copies from the mid-1940s of the CJC Committee on Social and Economic Studies Information and Comment bulletins, as well as a programme for the twenty-seventh anniversary celebrations for the Soviet Union, held at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1944. The program included a message from the prime minister, W. L. MacKenzie King, and a broadcast from Paul Robeson. The master of ceremonies was Lorne Greene. Scope and Content: This accession primarily consists of photographs documenting the events and activities of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, as well as the staff and lay leadership. The events pictured include missions, rallies, fly-ins, telethons, Major Gifts dinners, March of the Living, and Birthright. They also include Campaign divisions like Women’s Division, Young Accountants, and Young Leadership and its program Hands On Toronto ("HOT”). Organizations include Knesseth Israel Synagogue, JCC, the Zaglembier and Ostrovtzer societies, and Bernard Betel Centre. One cubic foot box consists entirely of photographs of Israel @ 50 programs including the “Night of a Lifetime.” There is also a large Israel @ 50 scrapbook of clippings, programs, and feature articles. Two boxes of photographs contain portraits filed by name.; There is a small amount of textual records in the accession, which include binders of newsclippings and brochures kept by the Creative Department, Tomorrow Campaign folios and booklets, and Central Campus vision documents from 2002. As well, there are sixty-eight CDs and DVDs, most of which are promotional videos relating to the Tomorrow Campaign and other UJA campaigns. There are also DVDs of 2008 UJA Big Ideas Forum and one cassette tape of the 2002 annual Lion of Judea luncheon. Finally, there is a DVCam cassette of the 2006 Campaign Closing celebration.

Custodial History: The records were in the custody of the Creative Department of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. As part of Federation's "purge day" on 5 June 2009, the department gathered together their materials and transferred them to the archives.

Biography: Benjamin "Ben" Gershon Kayfetz was born on 24 December 1916 in Toronto. He married Eva Silver and had two children. Ben graduated from the University of Toronto in 1939, with a bachelor of arts in modern languages. He worked as a high school teacher in Huntsville, Ontario and Niagara Falls, Ontario between 1941 and 1943. In 1943, he joined the war effort, working for the Department of National Defense in postal censorship and was responsible for reviewing prisoner of war mail. After the war, Kayfetz traveled to British-occupied Germany, where he worked as a censor of telecommunications with the Control Commission until 1947. Upon returning to Toronto, he was hired as the national director of community relations by the Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC) and as the executive (national) director of the Joint Community Relations Committee (JCRC), a CJC-B'nai B'rith cooperative organization. He also served as the central region executive director of the CJC between 1973 and 1978. He worked to develop anti-discrimination laws and for the protection of minority and religious rights. Kayfetz was also actively involved in promoting the welfare of Jewish communities worldwide. He was awarded the Samuel Bronfman Medal by the Canadian Jewish Congress in 1985 and the Order of Canada in 1986. In addition to his professional activities, Kayfetz wrote articles for various Jewish publications under both his own name and the pseudonym Gershon B. Newman. He also gave a weekly radio address on CHIN radio addressing various contemporary Jewish issues and was actively involved in the Toronto Jewish Historical Society (serving as its president), the Canadian Jewish Historical Society, and the Yiddish Luncheon Circle. He died in 2002.

Biography: Arthur Gelber was born on 22 June 1915 in Toronto. He was educated at Upper Canada College. He married Esther Salomon and had four daughters. Arthur was actively involved in Jewish and general community activity. Among his accomplishments, Arthur served as chair of the National Arts Centre Corporation, chair of the Advisory Council Ontario Cabinet, past president of the Canadian Conference of the Arts, past president of the National Ballet, Board of Directors of the American Council for the Arts, Ballet Opera House, National Ballet, Stratford Festival, life director of the National Theatre School of Canada, governor of National Theatre School of Canada, former honorary chair of the Performing Arts Development Fund, and former governor of York University, trustee of the AGO, decorated with the Order of Canada, recipient of the Centennial medal in 1967, Diploma D’honneur 1978, Queen’s Jubilee Medal, vice-president of America-Israel Cultural Foundation, executive of Canadian Jewish Congress, president of Toronto Zionist Council, president of United Jewish Welfare Fund, second chair of the UJA in 1949, chair of the United Jewish Relief Agency, and chair of the United Jewish Appeal.

Administrative History: UJA Federation's Tomorrow Campaign is Canada’s largest non-profit community development project. It is Federation's response to the need for new facilities and services brought about by the growth of Toronto’s Jewish community.; The Tomorrow Campaign is mandated with the fundraising and creation of three campuses for Jewish life in the GTA. The Downtown District, serving Toronto's growing Jewish population in the city core, is anchored by the new Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre at Bloor & Spadina and the Wolfond Centre for Jewish Campus Life at Harbord & Huron. Central Campus, on Bathurst north of Sheppard, will include the new Prosserman Family Jewish Community Centre, where the Bathurst Jewish Community Centre is currently located, a new Koffler Centre for the Arts, the Centre for Jewish Knowledge & Heritage and a renovated Lipa Green Building for Jewish Community Services. The Lebovic Jewish Community Campus, at Bathurst & Weldrick north of Rutherford, is designed to provide programs and services for York Region's Jewish community of 60,000 - the fastest growing in Canada. The Lebovic Campus will be highlighted by the Kimel Family Education Centre, housing the northern branch of the Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto (CHAT); the Schwartz-Reisman Centre offering recreational, educational, cultural, social and fitness facilities; community services; a United Synagogue Day School and other schools as well.

Scope and Content: Accession consists of textual, graphic and audio-visual material created and accumulated by UJA Federation's Creative Department. Included are DVDs and VHS tapes containing annual campaign videos, tommorrow campaign videos and footage, as well as footage of other events, such as an Israel Emergency Campaign event. Also included is a binder of CDs containing photos of various events, such as, Walk with Israel, Book of Life, Holocaust Education Week, Annual General Meetings and Major Gifts events. There are also binders containing invitations, flyers and other promotional material for a variety of events related to campaign, the Israel Emergency Campaign, leadership development, Impact Toronto and the Walk with Israel. Finally, accession also includes one binder of meeting minutes for UJA Federation's Pension Plan Committee (2005-2010).

Custodial History: Material was located in the Creative Department and transferred to the OJA during the department's move to another office.
