- The Ostrowtzer Mutual Aid Committee in Paris, also known as the Ostrowtzer Landsleyt Committee in Paris, was likely founded after the Second World War. It aimed to assist survivors from Ostrowiec by bringing them to Paris from eastern Europe and aiding with immigration. The committee provided vital support including food, clothing, and financial aid, organized occupational courses, facilitated finding places to live, offered loans, and cared for the sick. The committee coordinated with other Ostrovtzer committees and organizations worldwide to provide aid, including providing sewing machines to enable individuals to earn income. The committee played a crucial role in helping survivors settle in France.
- Scope and Content
- Sub-series consists of correspondence from the Ostrowtzer Mutual Aid Committee in Paris to the United Ostrowtzer Hilfs Committee and the Central Committee of the Ostrovtzer Aid Societies in North and South America. The materials document the challenges faced by Ostrovtzer refugees in Paris and the committee’s efforts to provide aid to surviving Ostrovtzers in the post-Second World War period. The letters also document the committee’s collaboration with other organizations worldwide.
