Ayala Ben Tovim Fleg Zacks Abramov (1912-) was born in Jerusalem and educated in Israel, Paris and London. She was active in Zionist circles after the Second World War, facilitating her meeting her second husband, Sam Zacks (1904-1970). He was born in Kingston Ontario, Canada, and was a financier, Zionist and art collector. Together they amassed a very large collection which they leant / bequeathed to various Canadian and Israeli institutions. After Sam Zacks’ death, Ayala married Zalman Abramov, an Israeli lawyer and politician, and moved to Israel permanently in 1982.
Scope and Content
File consists of three photographs of Phil Givens conversing in the home of prominent Canadian art collector and philanthropist Ayala Zacks.

The Primrose Club was founded in Toronto in 1907 as the Cosmopolitan Club, an elite Jewish men's social club. In 1959, the club's building at 41 Willcocks Street was expropriated by the University of Toronto (and currently houses the university's Faculty Club), and the club subsequently moved to a new building at Russell Road & St. Clair, designed by Kaplan & Sprachman. It has since been demolished and a condominium has been put up in its place by Ken Rotenberg, a Toronto developer.

Jospeh Singer (born 23 March 1890, died 22 November 1967) was the son of Samuel and Rosie Singer. He was a Toronto city councilor, lawyer, and prominent figure in Toronto's Jewish community, serving as vice-president of the Federated Jewish Philanthropies in Toronto and president of the Jewish Political Association. He represented Ward 3 and 4 during his time as a Toronto alderman (first being elected in 1920), and was also elected to the Toronto Board of Control in 1923. He also tried his hand at provincial and federal politics, running in the 1923 provincial election and the 1925 federal election, but was unsuccessful. He had one son, Vernon, a reeve of North York Township, and one daughter, Doris.

Admin History/Bio
Sol Kanee was a prominent Winnipeg-based lawyer and Jewish leader. Sol was born on 1 June 1909 to Samuel and Rose Kanee. He attended school to become a lawyer, practicing until the outbreak of the Second World War. He served with the Canadian Army Artillery for five years during the war, retiring with the rank of major. In the 1970s, he was elected the vice-president of the Canadian Jewish Congress, served on the board of governors of the Bank of Canada, and was chair of the Federal Business Development Bank. Due to his many accomplishments, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1977. He and his wife Florence had one son, Stephen.

Janice Gross Stein was born in 1943 and is a prominent Toronto-based academic and professor, having been (since 2000) the Belzberg Professor of Conflict Management in the Department of Political Science and the director of the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario.
Erwin Schild was born on 9 March 1920 in Germany, the son of Herman and Hetti. He arrived in Canada from Great Britain on 15 July 1940 aboard the SS Sobiesky and was interned with nearly three thousand other wartime refugees. He was eventually ordained by Yeshivah Torath Chaim, Toronto, and served as rabbi of the Adath Israel Congregation from 1947 to 1989. He married Laura Saxe, and, together, they have three children: Herman, Hedy, and Naomi. He has written about his experiences in "World Through My Window" and "The Very Narrow Bridge: A Memoir of an Uncertain Passage." In 2001, he was made a member of the Order of Canada.

Scope and Content
File consists of one brass coin given to Givens' as a memento of his visit to Israel as part of the Keren Hayesod Toronto Top Leadership Study Mission in 1970. The coin has a raised emblem on one side and an engraving of Jerusalem on the other side.

Max Shecter was born on July 7, 1923 to Joseph and Helen Shecter. He was married to Florence Fox and they had three children named: Trudy, Debbie and Barry. Max Shecter was the Secretary -Treasurer for Toronto Bedding Company Limited. He was an active member of the Toronto Jewish Community and was affiliated with the following organizations: Beth Sholom Congregation, United Synagogues of America, B'nai Brith, Israel Bond Organization, Joint Community Relations Committee, Canadian Jewish Congress, Zionist Organization of Canada and United Jewish Appeal's Furniture division.. Max Shecter was honoured with a Beth Sholom Israel Bond Dinner for dedicated leadership and by Upper Canada Lodge, B'nai Brith in 1959.

Max Shecter was born on July 7, 1923 to Joseph and Helen Shecter. He was married to Florence Fox and they had three children named: Trudy, Debbie and Barry. Max Shecter was the Secretary -Treasurer for Toronto Bedding Company Limited. He was an active member of the Toronto Jewish Community and was affiliated with the following organizations: Beth Sholom Congregation, United Synagogues of America, B'nai Brith, Israel Bond Organization, Joint Community Relations Committee, Canadian Jewish Congress, Zionist Organization of Canada and United Jewish Appeal's Furniture division.. Max Shecter was honoured with a Beth Sholom Israel Bond Dinner for dedicated leadership and by Upper Canada Lodge, B'nai Brith in 1959. Erwin Schild was born March 9th 1920 in Germany, the Son of Herman and Hetti. He arrived in Canada from Great Britain on July 15, 1940 aboard the S.S. Sobiesky and was interned with nearly 3,000 other wartime refugees. He was eventually ordained by Yeshivah Torath Chaim, Toronto, and served as Rabbi of the Adath Israel Congregation from 1947 to 1989. He married Laura Saxe and together they have three children: Herman, Hedy, and Naomi. He has written about his experiences in "World Through My Window" and "The very narrow bridge: a memoir of an uncertain passage." In 2001 he was made a Member of the Order of Canada.
