In 1941 the Jewish Family Welfare Bureau, the Jewish Child Welfare Association and the Young Men's Hebrew Association initiated an experimental program known as the Liaison Project to help children adjust to normal social situations through guided group activities. A liaison worker was hired as a staff member of all three agencies and was responsible for assisting the YMHA with programming and the referral of children in need of case work service; placing referrals from the case work agencies into appropriate YMHA groups; following the progress of each child placed into YMHA groups; and, conferencing with case workers. A Liaison Committee provided direction for the project, managed its publicity and looked after its budget. Through the program two new groups were created at the YMHA: the “Protected Group” for 9 year old boys who displayed aggressive behaviour at the YMHA, but were not suitable for case work; and, the “Special Group” for working female clients of the JFWB and the Jewish Big Sisters Committee between the ages of 18 and 21 with below average intelligence. The Liaison Project continued to operate just after the formation of the Jewish Family and Child Services in 1943; however, it likely petered out soon afterwards.

Series consists of textual records documenting the JFWB's participation in the Liaison Project. Included are meeting minutes, financial statements, correspondence, and staff memos.

Scope and Content
Series consists of records related to Phil Givens’ work as an MP for the federal riding of York West in Toronto and a small amount related to Givens’ earlier failed election attempt in the Spadina riding. The records include campaign material, correspondence, photographs, a video cassette featuring Givens' at the Houses of Parliament and an oversized composite print of the members of the House of Commons for 1968. Of note are images of Givens participating in a parliamentary delegation to the United Nations, attending the Sir Casimir Gzowski Monument dedication, and visiting NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center. Also included is a small number of photographs of Givens at events hosted or attended by national political figures, such as former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. Givens' attendance at such events occurred outside of his time in national office, but are associated with his role as a federal MP.

Folder consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence between John Glass and a number of individuals including Samuel Factor, W. G. La Marsh, Isadore Levinter, W. L. Miller, M. F. Hepburn (prime minister of Ontario), Colin Campbell, J. Louis Shannon, Gordon Conant, Mitchel Sharp, and W. Ross Macdonald.
Correspondence is generated by Ontario government departments and institutions including the Department of the Attorney General, Legislative Assembly, Office of the Prime Minister (now Pemier), Minister of Health, Ministry of Works, Department of Property, Treasury Department, and the Toronto Historical Board.
Of note is a letter from the Department of Public Welfare confirming that John Glass will be in charge of the memorial wreath presentation at the 1937 City Hall Remembrance Day Service. As well there is correspondence concerning a 1971 reunion of survivors of the 1919 Veterans Class at Osgoode Hall Law School. This small group of about eight men included John Glass.
Physical Condition
Many of the letters are copies in poor condition.

John Glass was a trustee of the Toronto Board of Education from 1928-1930 and alderman on the city council for four years after that. In 1934 he was elected member of the Ontario parliament for the St. Andrew riding where he served for nine years.

Planning to create an Action Committee for Soviet Jewry began in December, 1970 with its first real activities occurring in April, 1971. At that time, a Steering Committee for Soviet Jewry was also created to function as a small sub-committee of the Action Committee. By 1972 the roles had reversed, with the Steering Committee becoming the primary functioning committee for the coordination of activities relating to Soviet Jewry. By 1975 the Action Committee was completely phased and, in 1980, the Steering Committee's full name was changed to "Steering Committee for Soviet Jewry, Central Region". In 1981 a further name change occurred as it became the "Steering Committee for Soviet Jewry, Ontario Region". In 1988 the name was simplified to its final form, "The Committee for Soviet Jewry".
Scope and Content
Sub-series consists of the chronological correspondence files of the Steering Committee for Soviet Jewry, the Action Committee for Soviet Jewry and the Committee for Soviet Jewry. The correspondence also includes occasional administrative documents such as receipts and reports. There are also numerous general notices, promotional materials and selected articles and news releases related to the communications between the various members and executive officers of the committees. No records could be located for the years 1990 and 1991.

Admin History/Bio
The Executive Committee, also called the Executive Board, was elected at the first Board of Directors meeting after the annual meeting. It included the officers of the Board of Directors plus fifteen additional directors, including all appointed chairmen of the standing committees.
The Executive Committee was responsible for the administration of the programs and activities, and the supervision of the standing committees. All decisions made by the Executive Committee required approval by the Board of Directors.
Scope and Content
This file contains general correspondence between the various members of the Executive Committee and committee member lists.
Arrangement
Although the terms Executive Board and Executive Committee were at times used interchangeably, the titles used on the original files have been retained.
