History
Sol Edell was a founding member and first president of the Clanton Park Congregation. He was actively involved in the construction of the synagogue and its development. He continued to be affiliated with Shomrai Shabbos where his grandfather Rabbi Yosef Weinreb had been the rabbi. He was also involved with Adas Israel, the synagogue in Hamilton where his wife Celia had been an active member. He was chair of the Canadian Jewish Congress, Ontario Region -- Toronto Jewish Congress Archives Committee, which subsequently became the Ontario Jewish Archives.

The Hoffmans emigrated to Toronto from Czestochowa, Poland in 1908. According to The Might Directory, the Hoffmans opened their first grocery store in "The Ward" in 1909 at 134 Centre Avenue. Subsequent locations listed include 141 Centre Avenue (1910-1913), 339 Spadina Avenue (1914-1920), 350 Spadina Avenue 1922-1928 and 270 Spadina Avenue (1936 - ca. 1950).

Original and copy photograph of Mr. Meyer Michalson holding his daughter, Esther (m. Cooper), in his crockery store at Queen near Parliament at 360 Queen St. East. Eventually Mr. Michalson expanded his business to establish Michalson's Wholesale China at Parliament and Dundas Street. He also opened Michalson's East End Bargain House at the same corner.
