Admin History/Bio
Hyman Kirshenbaum was born in Toronto in 1915. He married to Esther Kirshenbaum and had two children: Martin and Mindy. He was also the cousin of Rabbi David Kirshenbaum of London, Ontario. He was in the printing business.
Kirshenbaum was involved in the Labour Zionist Movement, and his father was one of the Labour Zionist Alliance's founders in 1910. He was a member of the executive committee and regional council of the Canadian Jewish Congress; was the associate treasurer of the Canadian Zionist Federation, Central Region; was on the board of the Israel-Histadrut campaign; and a member of the LZA's National Bond Committee.
Kirshenbaum died on 24 November 1975.

This accession consists of records relating to the life and career of journalist and news editor, Ralph Hyman. The records include newspaper articles and books written by Ralph Hyman, correspondence, a scrapbook, photographs, periodicals, and ephemera
Administrative History
Ralph Hyman (1906–1989) was a Toronto journalist who also played an active role in Jewish community organizations. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1906, the son of Russian parents, Sarah and Hyman Radutsky. The name was changed to Hyman in Scotland. Several years after his birth, the family immigrated to Wellington, New Zealand, where they stayed until Ralph was seventeen. In 1924, they moved again, this time to Los Angeles. There, Ralph began his journalism career with the Glendale Times. In 1925, the family moved to Toronto, where Ralph got a job as a reporter for the Toronto Star. In 1928, he moved to the Mail and Empire. When the Mail and Empire merged with the Globe to form the Globe and Mail in 1936, he became a reporter and a political and feature writer. Ralph remained at the Globe and Mail unitl his retirement in 1971. A few months after his retirement, he returned to work as editorial consultant to the Canadian Jewish News. In 1972, he was appointed editor of that publication, a position he filled until his final retirement in 1980.
Ralph Hyman was active in the Joint Community Relations Committee, the Toronto Newspaper Guild and the Toronto Men's Press Club. He was married to Edith Etigson, and they had two children: Gerald David and Roger Leslie.

Ralph Hyman (1906–1989) was a Toronto journalist who also played an active role in Jewish community organizations. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1906, the son of Russian parents, Sarah and Hyman Radutsky. The name was changed to Hyman in Scotland. Accession consists of the birth certificate issued in October 1942 for Hyman Max Swartz, born on 7 August 1900, and a newspaper clipping [196-] honouring Max Swartz for his role in JIAS and including biographical details of his participation in other community organizations.
Administrative History
Max Swartz was born in Toronto and practiced law in that city. He was involved in many Jewish community organizations including the Y.M. and Y.W.H.A., CJC, the United Jewish Welfare Fund, the United Restitution Organization as well as JIAS.

History
The store was operated by Ben Zion Hyman and his wife Fanny. Their hours were 8:30 a.m. to 1pm daily (except for Saturday). There was a mimeograph machine, pop cooler, newspapers and a bar mitzvah registry. They carried Yiddish and Hebrew books, Judaica, tickets for the Standard Theatre, stationary, and school supplies. The store later moved to 412 Spadina Ave. (Donegan, Spadina Ave., p.138)

Scope and Content
Accession consists of records related to the life and communal service of Dr. Hyman O. Singer. Included are records related to B'nai Brith District No. 22, Eastern Canadian Council, and the Jacob Goldblatt Lodge; Canadian Jewish Congress, the Welland Hebrew Congregation; and other organizations such as the Canadian Council fo Christians and Jews and the National Council of Jewish Women. In addition, there are two objects: a B'nai B'rith badge and a plastic portfolio for the B'nai Brith Triennial Convention in 1965.
Administrative History
Born in Montreal, Dr. Hyman O. Singer (1908-1981) graduated with an M.D. degree from the University of Toronto in 1937. In 1940 he settled in Welland, Ontario. He was the first member of the Lord Melchett Lodge in St. Catharines and later became a member of the Jacob Goldblatt Lodge and served as its president, from 1949-1950. He served on the national executive of B'nai Brith, and as their vocational service commissioner. During his term as president of the Anshe Yosher Congregation (Welland Hebrew Congregation), a new synagogue and centre was built. He was a member of the National Executive of the Canadian Jewish Congress, and served as vice-chairman of the Educational and Cultural Committee. He was also the president of the medical staff of the Welland County General Hospital and Chief of the Department of General Practice. He died in St. Catharines in 1981.

Hyman and Ettie Sobol were the parents of Stanley Sobol. Stan was born in Hamilton, Ontario on June 21, 1920. An industrialist, he was President of Kent Steel Products Ltd., which was founded in 1942. Interested in Jewish issues, he visited Israel in 1957 as a member of the United Jewish Appeal study mission, and Vienna in 1959 on a mission to rescue Romanian Jews.
He was chairman of the Heavy Industry Division of U.J.A. for two years, co-founder of the Jewish Home for the Aged & Baycrest Hospital and the New Mount Sinai Hospital, and as well, he was an executive member for the Central Region of Zionist Organization of Canada, Associated Hebrew Schools, Israeli Bonds and Jewish Welfare Fund.

Admin History/Bio
Hyman James was the son of Yuda and Esther James. He lived at 327 Palmerston Blvd. and he ran the Men's Clothing Manufacturing Company and later H. James and Company with his brother Philip. He married Augusta (Gussie) Rumm on February 22nd, 1916 at the University Avenue Synagogue. He was 33 years old at the time and she was 18. Her parents were Joseph and Rebecca Rumm. Hyman died at the age of 50 in 1933 due to accidental poisoning.
Scope and Content
Item is a wedding photograph of Hyman James and Augusta Rumm. It was taken at the University Avenue Synagogue where they were married. Augusta (Gussie) is located in the second row in the centre with the white hat and Hyman is on her left.
