Admin History/Bio
Dr. Anna (nee David) Gelber (1907-2007) was born in Palestine in 1907 and passed away November 20th, 2007. Anna received her Doctor of Science from Sorbonne Univeristy in Paris, France and her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto. An obstetrician, at one point she worked in the Medical Department of Toronto's Women's College Hospital. Anna was also a prominent communal worker, active as a member of the National Executive Board of the Canadian Hadassah.
Anna married Eddie Gelber, a prominent communal worker. They had three children, Edna, Lynn and David. She and Eddie travelled significantly between Israel and Toronto during their marriage.

Fanny (nee Schwartz) Solway was the sister of Sylvia Schwartz. She was married to Alex Solway (d. 1 July 1988) and had two children, Carol and Herbert. She had three grandchildren, Gary, Diane and Michael. She died on 22 April 1971.
The Fanny Solway Award, is a University of Toronto Faculty of Law bursary set up by her family after her death to be given to a first year student that has obtained standing in pre-law studies satisfactory to the council and who satisfies the Council of capacity to be an outstanding law student, and demonstrates financial need.
Herbert Solway received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto in 1953 and a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1955. He was called to the Bar in 1957. Herbert was a founding member of Goodmans LLP, joining the firm in 1955. He has played a significant role in helping build the foundation of the firm, serving as its chair from 1980 to 1992. He served as a Chariman until 1994 and Partner until 1998. He continues to serve as Counsel to Goodmans. He was appointed to the Queen's Counsel in 1968.
Herbert has also been a Director of Gluskin Sheff and Associates Inc. since May 2006. He is a Director of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and a Founding director of the Tarragon Theatre Company. He was a Founding director of Sun Media Corporation, as well as a Director of John Labatt Ltd.
Carol Solway is the daughter of Alex and Fanny Solway, brother of Herbert Solway and the niece of Sylvia Schwartz.

Photograph has sticky tape residue on it. The tin has also begun to rust and the image is brittle and chipping off. It is recommended that the item be looked at by a photo conservator.

Nathan Rosenberg was the owner of several ladies' and children's clothing stores in downtown Toronto. Nathan, along with his brother Simon, were the co-owners of the Dainty Dress Company at 317 Adelaide West. He also owned the Exclusive Ladies Garment Company at 221 Richmond Street and was the president of the Exclusive Children's Cloak Company, which was headquartered at 44 York Street.
Scope and Content
File consists of various floor plans, sections and elevation drawings of a large three storey clothing store for Mr. Nathan Rosenberg on Dundas Street West. In 1925, Nathan Rosenberg owned Campbell Women's Wear, located at 124 & 130 Dundas St. West. These may be the drawings for this building.

Ben Simon (1906-1996) was born in Toronto and worked as a tailor. His family, mother Etta (1874 -1967) and father Ephraim (Frederick) (1876-1938) immigrated from Russia to Canada in 1904. Silblings include, Rae (1904-1987), Leah (1905-1976), Helen (1911-1986), Albert (1913-2003), Irving (1915-1999) and George (1919-1981). Ben married Susan (Givertz) (1915-2000) and together they had one son, Fred Simon.

Ben and Elsie Harold were Labour Zionists, and Ben was a UJA chairman in 1982. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan. Ben passed away before Elsie.
Elsie Harold (b 21 May 1915 - 12 May 2006) was born in 1915 and had three siblings, Saul Freeman, Ruth Netter and Pearl Mekler. She married Ben Harold and had three children, Nancy Harold, Dr. David Harold and Dr. Rena Harold. She was a grandmother to 7 grandchildren and great grandmother of 4 great grandchildren prior to her death in 2006.
