Scope and Content
Accession consists of textual records, graphic materials, and artifacts documenting the Shaarey Shomayim Synagogue in Fort William (Thunder Bay) and the Jewish community of Thunder Bay. The records include a brass menorah and shivisi from the Synagogue, along with a wooden tablet of the ten commandments (1920s); a marriage register (1908-1951); a minute book of the chevra kadisha (1913-1986); B'nai Brith Lodge membership registration books, minute books, a dues book, and a framed citation (1911-1970); and several photographs including the Jewish community's float for the coronation of King George VI, the turning of the sod for the new synagogue, the B'nai Brith Lodge annual picnic in Port Arthur and a meeting honouring Jewish servicemen of the Second World War, and three portraits of the Synagogue's honourary presidents.

This accession consists of five electronic scans of original photographs documenting the Hurtig family of Thunder Bay (formerly Fort William and Port Arthur). The photographs depict Dave and Bert Hurtig in front of the Empire Hotel, the Hurtig family at Izzy and Rhona Baron's wedding and a children's Chanukah celebration in the B'nai Brith hall.

Scope and Content
This accession consists of ten electronic copies of photographs documenting the Laskin family and the Jewish community of Thunder Bay. The photographs depict a 1937 royal coronation parade float created by the Jewish community, as well as a portrait of Saul Laskin and members of the Laskin family and some photos of Saul during his political election campaign and during a store giveaway. Also included is the sod turning ceremony of the new synagogue and the street naming of Saul Laskin Drive in Thunder Bay. Also identified in the photographs are: Murray Stitt, Rabbi Sternberg, and Mayor Norman Wilson.
Custodial History
The original records are in the possession of the donor. They were loaned to the OJA for the small Jewish communities project for copying.

Accession consists of a large portrait of Martin Shaffer during his bar mitzvah at Shaarey Shomayim Synagogue in 1971. There are also two Shaffer family kiddish cups, one inscribed with Hebrew lettering. Nancy's husband, Sam, received one of the cups at his bar mitzvah and the second was given to Martin.

Max Shecter was born on July 7, 1923 to Joseph and Helen Shecter. He was married to Florence Fox and they had three children: Trudy, Debbie and Barry. Max Shecter was the Secretary -Treasurer for Toronto Bedding Company Limited. He was an active member of the Toronto Jewish Community and was affiliated with the following organizations: Beth Sholom Congregation, United Synagogues of America, B'nai Brith, Israel Bond Organization, Joint Community Relations Committee, Canadian Jewish Congress, Zionist Organization of Canada and United Jewish Appeal's Furniture division. Accession consists of photographs of the procession in honour of the amalgamation of the Shaarei Tefillah Synagogue and the Anshei Libavitch Synagogue. The procession started at the home of David Malkin at Bathurst and Wilson and proceeded down Bathurst Street. Identified in the photographs are: David Malkin, Abe Cohen, Alvin Malkin, Lewis Baumander, Marlee Petroff, Melody Brocklesby, Maurice Brenner, Rob Cooper, Farley Cohen, Harold Baumander, Marvin Allen, Lauryl Sandler, Stephen Cohen, and Michael Malkin.
Custodial History
