Scope and Content
Accession consists of the records created and collected by Bill Gladstone during the course of his research for a book, The History of the Jewish Community of London Ontario from the 1850s to the Present Day. The book was commissioned by the Rubinoff family. The records document several long-standing families of the London Jewish community, as well as business and religious and social institutions. Included are vital statistics, correpsondence, demographic reports and surveys, photographs, and other related material.

Bill Gladstone is a researcher, writer and genealogist living in Toronto. He has written and edited numerous books on Canadian Jewish history and is a frequent contributor to the Canadian Jewish News, the Globe and Mail and other publications. He is often asked to give community presentations on a variety of topics related to the history of Jewish Toronto.

Accession consists of records created and accumulated by Bill Gladstone in the course of researching his book on the genealogical lineage of the Naftolin and Rubinoff families. Included are photographs of the Shmuel Chaim and Rachel Rubinoff branch, the Aaron Rubinowitz branch, the Benjamin Rubinoff branch, the Arnoff branch and the Naftolin branch. The photographs are in the form of family and individual portraits, candid snapshots, event photographs, Rubinoff store exteriors, and photographs of various life event celebrations. The textual records consist of research notes and copied material from various sources detailing the lives of individual family members.

Accession consists of records created and collected by Bill Gladstone during the course of his research into the family history and genealogy of the Naftolin and Rubinoff families and their various branches. Included are Gladstone's extensive research files on each member of the family, which consist of hand-written research notes, correspondence with family members and government officials, newsclippings, copies of vital statistics, immigration and citizenship records, certificates, bereavement and sympathy cards, telegrams and congratulatory anniversary cards, invitations, and photographs.
Accession also consists of records related to the Agudas Hamishpocha, the family mutual benefit society and social club that was formed in 1928 by the Naftolin and Rubinoff families. These records include meeting invitations and flyers, anniversary and jubilee books, membership lists, photographs, loan society materials, newsclippings and articles, research notes, and a copy of the letters of incorporation.
Administrative History
Bill Gladstone is a direct decendent of the Naftolin-Rubinoff family. The five branches of the family as researched by Gladstone are the Rachel Rubinowitz and Shmuel Chaim Rubinowitz branch; Riva Rishe Rubinowitz and Itsha Maisha Naftolin branch; Binyamin (Benjamin) Rubinoff and Esther Dobin branch; Minya Rubinowitz and Elimelech Arnoff branch; and Aaron Rubinowtiz and Esther Cahansky branch. Rachel, Riva Rishe, Binyamin, Minya and Aaron were all siblings. Other family names include Cohen, Slovin, Rosensweig, Patlik and Alter.

Accession consists of a binder of notes related to the Goldenberg Scroll, created by Sara Edell Shafler Kelman. The scroll was the project of Dr. Henry Goldenberg who captured the genealogical history of his patients with Galician roots on the paper that lined the exam table in his office. The notes are primarily anecdotes about Dr. Goldenberg rather than his patients. Also included is a photograph of Dr. Goldenberg, as well photographs of his wife and daughter Helen and Ricki with Sara Edell, and a photograph of a 25th wedding anniversary celebration for Avromtche Kurtz and Yente Goldenberg Kurtz.
This accession also includes clippings and photographs related to Ben Kayfetz including one of him with Meyer Sharzer and Danny Drutz; a Pride of Israel Sick Benefit Society ring and pin owned by Harry Arnoff; a Sunnyside Lodge 449 pin owned by Harry Arnoff; as well as a recording of an interview with Barry Little.
Custodial History
The material in this accession was created and/or compiled by Sara Edell Shafler Kelman. It was later given to Bill Gladstone, who in turn donated the material to OJA. Many of the records are annotated, though it is not always clear whether the annotations were made by Kelman or Gladstone.

William Jacob Prager was born in Toronto in 1924 and attended Oakwood Collegiate. Prager enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in December 1942 and went overseas as a private in the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry in July 1944. He was reported wounded on 25 March 1945 and was hospitalized in Belgium.

Accession includes material pertaining to Morris Stern including a business card "M. Stern Agency for Fresh Milk and Cream ' (1936), correspondence with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee concerning the contribution by the Lagower Hilfa Verein (Lagover Hilfs Farein) of Toronto toward the establishment of a Gemiloth Chessed Kassa in Lagov, Poland (1938).There are 2 documents associated with Morris' activities with the J.L. Peretz Branch 26 of the Farband Labour Zionist Order, and the Hebrew Sick Benefit Society (1960).As well there is his son William Stern's bar mitzvah invitation (1934), a photo of Bill with a group in front of an El Al plane in Israel, and a letter from Sol Kanee of the Canadian Jewish Congress to Bill , the Executive Director of the Council of Jewish organizations of Hamilton (1972) Finally, there is a framed certificate from the Jewish National Fund of Hamilton, Ontario Negev Dinner honouring Harold Minden Q.C.

Scope and Content
Accession consists of letters to Bill Rotman from Hy Perkal and Lou Pusitz, a military postcard from Hy Perkal to Bill Rotman, a postcard from Bill Rotman (from the Belmont House, Lake Joseph, Ontario) to Goldie Shulman, and a letter to Goldie from Bill (at the Bel-Pines Lodge in Port Carling, Ontario). There is a souvenir booklet for a Chmelniker Hilfs Farein Banquet, and material from Club Anon including a membership list, newsletters and memorabilia from social events.

Bill Rotman was in the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed at Pendleton, Ontario.

Scope and Content
Accession consists of copy photographs and negatives of the extended Gladstone, Naftolin and Rubinoff families and of the opening of the Mildred Arnoff Hebrew Day School at Beth Shalom Synagogue. Also included are photocopies of the 10th, 45th, and 50th Jubilee Books for the Agudas Hamishpocha (United Families) organization, and a photocopy of the Jewish Boys Club News with a story about Russell Gladstone's election as a Commissioner of the organization.
Administrative History
Agudas Hamishpocha was founded in Toronto in 1928 by members of the vast Rubinoff-Naftolin cousinhood, and was modeled after the mutual benefit societies, landsmanshaft organizations and similar associations founded by other local Jewish groups in the early twentieth century. As of 2013, this organization is still active.

File consists of acknowledgements of receipts or pledges to various organizations made by Lipa Green, Mrs. Green or both of them, or by Greenwin Construction Co. Examples are a pledge to UJA, a donation to the Jewish Public Library, a pledge to Bialik Hebrew Day School Building Fund Campaign, and an acknowledgement of a donation to Beth Jacob High School. Other organizations who received donations are Jewish Labour Committee, Toronto Workmen's Circle and Hebrew National Association. There are three certificates issued by the Jewish Natioanl Fund acknowledging a tree planted in Israel, two certificates in honour of Lipa Green, and one in memory of Bella Gladman, Lipa's sister.

Bill Stern's parents were not supposed to take the train with him, but they insisted, and travelled as far as Newcastle, Ontario with their son.
Scope and Content
This item is a photograph of Bill and his mother Fanny Stern. The photograph was taken at Exhibition grounds before Bill boarded the train to Halifax, where he would sail overseas to the fighting in Europe. Bill is standing in front of the train with his arm around his mother's shoulder.
