Project Renewal is a joint project between the government of Israel and the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI). Begun in 1978, it involves Diaspora populations in empowering distressed communities in Israel. The project has had an impact on over 120 cities and neighborhoods throughout Israel.
Scope and Content
File contains records relating to the costs of funding a variety of causes, functions and activities in Israel. A list of the costs of causes for youth specifically, came from the JAFI's Communications Division. The other sheets were compiled by UJA and comprise funding proposals for Project Renewal and a list of equipment needed by communities in Israel with the costs associated with each. The youth-related costs are a connection to the 1994 March's theme, which focussed on the needs of teenage olim (immigrants).

Scope and Content
The series consists of newsletters and bulletins published by the BJE as part of its outreach and promotional activities. The intended audiences for these publications were parents, teachers at affiliated schools, and school principals and administrators. The newsletters for teachers are "Likutim : a bulletin for teachers" (1951-1955; in Hebrew and English), and "Teachers' bulletin" (1957-1959). Likutim was intended primarily to keep teachers informed of new developments in pedagogy. Teachers' bulletin contains information on the BJE, its programs and services.
A newsletter specifically aimed at parents was initially titled "Our children" (1954), and then "Home and school" (1954-1963). This newsletter contained articles on Jewish holidays and other aspects of Judaism, news articles on the BJE and Jewish education, and articles on how parents could encourage and be involved in their children's education.
In the 1970s, the BJE published the "Board of Jewish Education newsletter," which contains short articles on current events relating to the BJE and Jewish education, and the services and activities of the BJE.

Admin History/Bio
Rabbi Abraham A. Price was a prominent Rabbi and Talmudic scholar in Toronto. He was born on December 10, 1900 in Stopnitz, Poland to Rabbi Joseph and Basia Price. He married Sarah Wine, and had two children: a son, Moshe Leib, who predeceased him, and a daughter, Leah (Lola) Zuchowsky. He also had a brother Lazar.
Price lived in Poland until 1923, when he moved to Berlin and became a banker. He left Berlin for Paris in 1931, and lived there for 6 years before fleeing to the United States in 1937. Rabbi Price originally went to New York City, but spent only ten days there before moving to Toronto.
Rabbi Price studied with world-famous scholars Rabbi Abraham Borenstein and Rabbi Sillman, by whom he was ordained at the Rabbinical Seminary Sochatzow (Sochatov), Poland in 1919. He was hired in 1937 by Moishe Oelbaum, Moishe Sigal, and W.J. Silverberg to head Yeshivah Torath Chaim and to act as the official rabbi of Chevra Shas Congregation. Price remained dean of the yeshivah until at least 1985. He published ten volumes of highly acclaimed rabbinical studies, including three volumes of Mishnath Avraham with commentaries of the Book of the Pious "Sefer Chasidim," which were awarded the Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook Award of Merit in 1965. It was the first time this prize was given to an author outside Israel.
Price was one of Toronto's most influential rabbinic authorities. He worked tirelessly to help European yeshivah students during and after the Second World War. In 1942 he orchestrated the release of over 50 German-Jewish men from an internment camp in Quebec, and brought them to study at the yeshivah. In 1948 he again intervened to sponsor 55 young yeshivah boys from Prague. He brought these boys to study at Torath Chaim as well.
Rabbi Price died on Thursday, March 31, 1994 in Toronto. His estate donated his collection of over 3000 printed rabbinical works to the University of Toronto Library, including over 300 items printed before 1800.
Scope and Content
This file contains correspondence sent and received by Rabbi Abraham A. Price between 1942 and 1962. The letters relate to Rabbi Price's involvement in having Jewish-German internees released from internment camps in 1942, and Czechoslovakian refugees brought over to study at the yeshivah in 1948. It also includes inquiries made and references given about former students.

Scope and Content
The series consists primarily of architectural drawings and photographs of buildings designed or renovated by Kaplan & Sprachman, or by Harold Kaplan following the dissolution of Kaplan & Sprachman in 1965. Many projects are documented through only a few interior and exterior photographs of the building or photographs of architectural models and drawings. The architectural drawings include floor plans, elevations, sections, mechanical and electrical plans and lot plans. Approximately a third of the drawings are originals done in pencil, while the remainder are blueprints, blueline prints and other reproductions.
The series is organized chronologically into sub-series by the buildings worked on: Loew's Theatre, 189 Yonge Street, Toronto (now the Elgin Theatre); Loew's Uptown Theatre, 764 Yonge Street; Loew's Winter Garden Theatre (189 Yonge St., Toronto); the Jewish Home for the Aged; the Kaplans' homes in North York and in an apartment or condominium bulding, Park Towers; Atlas Radio Corporation; R.J. Sapera's store at Sheppard Ave. E. and Willowdale Ave.; Mr. & Mrs. P. Cooper's residence (Pembroke); the Primrose Club, Russell Hill Rd. & St. Clair Ave., Toronto; Precast Building Products (Vaughn Township); Thorncliffe Theatre (East York); and, Mr. & Mrs. S. Greenberg's residence, 19 Dellbank Drive.
Sub-sub-series are defined for the series of projects undertaken at Loew's Theatre, and at the Uptown Theatre. These sub-sub-series are organized by the original project reference code or by date when a reference code is not available.
In some cases, the project materials include plans prepared by other architects who carried out earlier work on the building in question, or by contractors for Kaplan & Sprachman projects. The sub-sub-series for Uptown Theatre projects includes, for example, photostatic reproductions of the 1919 theatre plans by Thomas W. Lamb.
Notes
The Thorncliffe Theatre plans were created by Mandel Sprachman, architect, son of Abraham Sprachman. Harold Kaplan's role in this project is not known.

Admin History/Bio
In 1941 the Jewish Family Welfare Bureau, the Jewish Child Welfare Association and the Young Men's Hebrew Association initiated an experimental program known as the Liaison Project to help children adjust to normal social situations through guided group activities. A liaison worker was hired as a staff member of all three agencies and was responsible for assisting the YMHA with programming and the referral of children in need of case work service; placing referrals from the case work agencies into appropriate YMHA groups; following the progress of each child placed into YMHA groups; and, conferencing with case workers. A Liaison Committee provided direction for the project, managed its publicity and looked after its budget. Through the program two new groups were created at the YMHA: the “Protected Group” for 9 year old boys who displayed aggressive behaviour at the YMHA, but were not suitable for case work; and, the “Special Group” for working female clients of the JFWB and the Jewish Big Sisters Committee between the ages of 18 and 21 with below average intelligence. The Liaison Project continued to operate just after the formation of the Jewish Family and Child Services in 1943; however, it likely petered out soon afterwards.
Scope and Content
Series consists of textual records documenting the JFWB's participation in the Liaison Project. Included are meeting minutes, financial statements, correspondence, and staff memos.
