- Lazar Liubarsky, a radio engineer from Moldavia, was arrested in 1972 after applying for permission to leave the Soviet Union for Israel in 1970. He was charged with disseminating anti-Soviet propaganda and served four years in a prison camp before re-applying to emigrate in 1976, when he and his family were given permission to emigrate to Israel.
