- Ernest Leo Kolber was born on 18 January 1929. He was a prominent businessman, company director (Seagram, MGM, TD Bank); philanthropist; Canadian senator (Liberal); and Officer of the Order of Canada. He maintained close ties to Israel, enjoying a long friendship with Israeli president Shimon Peres.
