File contains two copies of minutes of the executive meeting of the Jewish War Veterans of Canada on 13 March 1977, which Dunkelman attended. The file also contains related correspondence and a 7-page newsletter.
Accession consists of records documenting the Jewish War Veterans of Canada and its unfinished project to create a book relating to Canadian Jewish servicemen. Included are drafts of the book, correspondence relating to the book, a brochure, a commemorative dinner booklet, a newspaper clipping, and screen shots of the organization's now inactive website.
Administrative History
The Jewish War Veterans of Canada is an organization for Jewish veterans of all wars. The Toronto Post was formed in 1976 and sponsors community events, annual dinners, and assists veterans. Around 2005, the organization had plans to erect a monument at Earl Bales Park and publish a book to commemorate all Jewish veterans; however, the organization fell into financial trouble and this project never came to fruition. The Toronto Post has since undergone a complete change of leadership and continues to operate out of its office at 4600 Bathurst Street.
Accession consists of 198 digital images on one CD documenting the groundbreaking, construction and dedication of the Jewish War Veterans of Canada monument on the Sherman Campus of the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. The photographs were taken between September 11 and November 11, 2011.
Custodial History
The images were on the personal computer of Amek Adler, vice-president of the Jewish War Veterans of Canada and chair of the monument committee. They were copied onto CD for the archives.

File consists of records documeting meetings of the World Assembly of Jewish War Veterans. Included is a list of resolutions adopted at the January 1976 gathering and a booklet containing excerpts of keynote speeches from the February 1979 meeting.

File contains correspondence and clippings in connection with the Canadian Jewish Congress and its attempt to bring Second World War Nazi war criminals to justice. Some items refer to the Deschenes Inquiry, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, and former Governor General Ray Hnatyshyn. Ben Dunkelman assisted the CJC in persuading the federal government to track down Nazi war criminals.
Accession consists of one souvenir programme produced by the Jewish Veterans' Branch 256 of the Royal Canadian Legion. This branch was later renamed Wingate. The programme celebrates the First annual benefit dance by the Ladies Auxiliary of Branch 256 and includes a brief history of the branch, which formed in 1934, a list of officers, a report on the year's activities and a number of sponsored advertisements.

File contains correspondence referring to the Annual Israel Independence Day Dinner on 20 May 1979, held in New York by the American Veterans of Israel. Dunkelman was a guest of honour at the dinner.
File contains correspondence on the subject of machal and American Jewish war veterans. The file also includes newsletters from the American Veterans of Israel, along with correspondence related to the Jewish War Veterans of the United States and the Jewish War Veterans of Canada. In addition, there is a small directory of New York members of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States.
In 1945, the UJWF received two applications concerning capital needs -- one from the YM-YWHA and one from the General Wingate Branch. They suggested that a joint capital campaign for $750 000 be held for a Jewish War Memorial Centre, which would house the activities of the "Y" and the General Wingate Branch.
The campaign began in 1948, and was spearheaded by Samuel Godfrey, campaign chairman. The campaign raised approximately $350 000 which was later added to the $1 250 000 raised in the second campaign, to reach the "Y"s total Combined Building Campaign goal of $1 500 000. The legion never moved into the "Y" building, but the building was dedicated to the Jewish soldiers who fought for Canada in the world wars, during the cornerstone ceremony.
Scope and Content
This file contains a survey report of the Toronto Jewish community created by the National Welfare Board prior to the campaign launch, meeting minutes of the Wingate Branch, and general correspondence. There is also a copy of a "Victory" booklet from 1942, which contains a list of "Y" member names who were enlisted in the armed forces during the Second World War.
File consists of three negatives and one slide depicting an unidentified event—Jewish veterans at Remembrance Day?—at Nathan Phillips Square circa 1978. Visible are veterans in uniform, a Canadian flag, and an Israeli flag.
Item is a bronze, circular medal with a blue, white, and red border. There is bronze writing along the border. There is a blue, red, and white shield in the middle.
Item is a photograph of the General Wingate Branch, Royal Canadian Legion and Jewish war veterans memorial service held at Mount Sinai Cemetery. Identified in the photograph are Barry Goldman (5 yrs.) and Randy Goldman (6yrs.). Their father Israel Goldman is buried in the cemetery. On the far left is Ernie Stein, a Jewish war veteran and member of the colour party.
File consists of an article by Eric Margolis in the Toronto Sun dated 16 February 1989. The article refers to Ben Dunkelman's refusal to drive the Arab population out of Nazareth after his conquest of Nazareth during Operation Dekel in 1948.
Item is a silver coin with a loop at the top for the ribbon to attach the coin to the pin. On one side of the coin is a profile of King George V with the following writing around the circumference: "GEORGIVS V BRITT. OMN REX ET IND. IMP." On the coin's other side, there is an image of a man on a horse with the years 1914-1918 above him.
File consists of correspondence relating to medications ordered by the Department of Veteran's Affairs, Sunnybrook Hospital. The letters list the name and number of the patient and the price of the medication ordered.
Accession consists of minutes of meetings of the War Efforts Committee, various newspapers from the USA (The Sentinel) and Canada (Army Week) and a Jewish Calendar for Men in the Canadian Armed Forces (1941-1942).

Administrative History
One of the main roles of the committee was to raise funds from Jewish communities across Canada for the purchase and donation of furniture. According to a document 'Special bulletin on Furnishing project', Congress is the only organization supplying furniture under an agreement with the Department of National Defence. The Chairman of the committee was Gurston Allen of Toronto.
This file consists of minutes from the meeting of the Eastern Division Campaign Committee, United Jewish Refugee Relief Agencies held November 1939 and a report by United Jewish Relief covering the period of March 22 to April 39, 1945. Included in the report is information concerning refugee families, services rendered to refugee families, financial costs, services rendered, etc.
This file consists of an invitation to attend a conference of the "United Jewish Relief" and a notice of a remembrance evening for Jewish war victims in Europe.
File consists of three photographs of Phil Givens attending a Remembrance Day Ceremony for Jewish War veterans held by the General Wingate Branch 256 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Also identified in the photographs is J. Sacks.
