- John Devor was born on November 12, 1915 in St. Catharines to Kate and Harry Devor. He married Mildred Ritterspoon and they had three children: David Samuel, Marshall Gordon and Susan Hyla.
- He served as a radar instructor during the Second World War. John worked as a business executive and was the general manager for Van Kirk Chocolate Corporation Limited. An active member of the Jewish community, John Devor was affiliated with the Bureau of Jewish Education, United Jewish Appeal, Israel Bond Campaign, Associated Hebrew Schools, the Jewish Home for the Aged and the YMHA. In addition, he was also the national vice-president for ZMA, past president of Ajalon Lodge, and past president of the Toronto Zionist Council.
