Admin History/Bio

The Home News magazine was first issued in 1957 to keep the public informed about the activities and operation of the Jewish Home for the Aged and Baycrest Hospital. Initially, it also provided residents with a forum for expression as some of them sat on the magazine's Editorial Board. In Sept. 1969, the publication changed its name to Baycrest News to reflect Baycrest's name change to the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care. Another change to the publication took place in 1982, when its format was altered from a magazine to a tabloid. It was issued between three and four times each year. Baycrest News is no longer published.

Scope and Content

Sub-series consists of issues of the Baycrest News and its predecessor, Home News.

As well there is an invitation to the First Annual Dinner and Auction of the Carrie and Adam Dream Fund (1997), a Firefly Books catalogue (1997) and a letter and photos regarding the opening of the caylefilm office.

The photographs document a variety of community events and oganizations including Camp Ramah in Canada, Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto (CHAT), Leo Baeck Day School, Temple Har Zion, Netivot Hatorah, Mizrachi, Israel Bonds, and Chabad Lubavitch.

Accession consists of one original and one copy of a New Moon Lodge brochure. The brochure advertises that it "caters to a gentile clientele".

Administrative History

The New Moon Lodge was located on the Lake of Bays in the Muskoka area of Baysville. It was owned by the Simpson family. Al Goodman purchased the property in 1961 and operated it as a Jewish camp called Camp New Moon.
