- Scope and Content
- This sub-series consists of thirty-six negatives and four prints taken by Sylvia Schwartz of the family at leisure. It is made up of seven files. The majority of the images are of the family relaxing at their cottage in Bobcaygeon. Images consist of photographs of the family on the lawn, in the cottage and on the lake. There are both candid and staged photographs.
- Images from the cottage consist of staged family photographs on the lawn from 1941, candid and staged photographs from ca. 1955 and images of little girls (Jan Shleser and Judith Wolfson) playing outside from ca. 1955.
- Family members featured include Gertrude, Joseph, Ruth, Jack and Jewell Schwartz, Helen, Isaac, Jill and Jan Shleser and Fanny, Alex, Herbert, Carol and Gary Solway. As well as, the Hausser, Halbert and Wintrob families. Family friends are also in the images. Individuals include Judith Wolfson, Frances and David Gruber and David Rotenberg and his brothers. Sylvia Schwartz is in some images.
- There is one print that is a view of the cottage from the lake and one print of Herbert Solway reading the newspaper in bed with his son Gary that may or may not have been taken at the cottage. Sub-series is arranged at the file level. Files are organized chronologically by date.

- Admin History/Bio
- The National Camps Association was established by the Zionist Organization of Canada as an administrative body responsible for overseeing the operation of the ZOC-owned summer camps in Canada. The Executive Vice-President was in charge of supervising the Camps Association which, after 1970, included a National Camps Committee comprised of regional camp chairmen and alternate representatives appointed by the regional presidents. The National Committee members were also de-facto members of the Regional Camp Committees.
- The National Camps Association created all of the standards and guidelines for the camps, which were implemented by the Regional Camp Committees as a way of streamlining operations. The Association also handled all budgetary matters. Staffing and daily camp operation was conducted in co-operation with Canadian Young Judaea, a Zionist organization of Canadian youth and young adults.
- The National Camps Association was responsible for Camp Biluim, the leadership training institutue; the Biluim Summer Programme in Israel; Camp Solelim and Camp Shalom in Ontario; Camp Hagshama and Camp Kinneret in Quebec; Camp Hatikvah in British Columbia; and Camp Kadima in Nova Scotia.

- The files in this series consist of textual records and photographs created between 1958 and 1978. These recordes relate to the administrative functioning of the National Camps Association and the operations of the various summer camps under its governance.

- Ben Dunkelman was an avid yachtsman. As member of Toronto's Island Yacht Club--a Jewish club established in the 1950s--he had his own boat called 'The Dinny' and took part in running the club. Besides being a sailor, Dunkelman was an amateur inventor. The sub-series includes a United States patent for a "walking aid for small children".
- Scope and Content
- Sub-series is made up of six files of correspondence, a hunting story, notes and 12 photographs relating chiefly to Ben Dunkelman’s interest in yachting. The 12 photos are of Ben, Yael and friends yachting. In addition, the sub-series contains Dunkelman's walking aid patent and a letter he wrote to Vintage Grand Touring Automobiles.

- Accession consists of 5 photographs, a letter from Joan Sutton to Frank Laurie speaking about Nat Laurie's positive influence on her life and newsclippings. The photographs include a panoramic of a Dress Manufacturers Guild banquet (194-) featuring Nat Laurie at the head table in front of the microphone. Also identified are Sam, Abe and Joseph Posluns. Other photographs include images of Emma Laurie with daughter Marilyn and Emma's much younger half-sister Annie Pion Steinberg, a portrait of Emma Steinberg (ca. 1934) and one of Nat and Emma around the time of their wedding (ca. 1937) as well as a group photo of Marilyn Laurie at Camp Arowhon (ca. 1949-1950). Also identified in this photograph is Ruthie Silver.
- Administrative History
- Nathan (Nat) Laurie (ca. 1904-1958) was born around 1904 in Montreal, Quebec. He married Emma (nee Steinberg) (1914-1997) around 1937 after a brief courtship. Together they had one son, Frank and one daughter, Marilyn (m. Baker). Nat owned Nat Laurie Dresses at Spadina Avenue and Richmond Street in Toronto and was president of the Dress Manufacturers Guild. Notably, he was in charge of fabric allocations during the Second World War and provided a dress to the winner of the Miss Toronto pageant. In 1951, he opened the Zanzibar night club on Yonge Street as a live blues and jazz club. Nat died in 1958.

- Frank Shuster (b. September 5, 1916, Toronto, ON) was a Canadian comedian best known as a member of the comedy duo Wayne and Shuster (with Johnny Wayne).
- Wayne and Shuster met at Harbord Collegiate in Toronto, where they performed in annual revues. After receiving BAs in English from the University of Toronto, they were both studying for their masters when WWII intervened. After enlisting in the infantry, they were soon reunited, writing and performing for The Army Show.
- Following the war, they returned to Canada and worked together on radio (by 1946 they had their own show on CBC) and later on television. In 1950 they began appearing as guests on various American TV programs, including a record sixty-seven performances on "The Ed Sullivan Show."
- He was married to Ruth Shuster and had two children: Rosie and Steve. Rosie Shuster is a comedy writer for Saturday Night Live and other television programs, and former wife of Lorne Michaels. Steve Shuster is also in the entertainment industry.
- In 1996, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada and died in 2002 in Toronto.
