Admin History/Bio
Arthur Shainberg was from Poland, possibly born in Warsaw, to parents Szeiny and Dobny (née Nusymowicz). His father was originally from Opatow, and his mother was from Ostrowiec. Arthur had four brothers—David, Chaim, Moishe, and Yosl—and a sister—Lena. He immigrated to the United States and, by the mid-1940s, was living in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He appears to have worked for Simon’s Supply Co., a plumbing and heating supplies company.
Alternate spellings of his surname include Szeinberg and Sheinberg.
Scope and Content
File consists of a letter from Arthur Shainberg in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to Max Hartstone, dated 25 July 1946. In this letter, Arthur writes that his sister has not yet obtained her visa and mentions that he has asked his lawyer to write a letter to a senator for assistance. He asks Max to assure his sister in his next letter that the two of them are in communication with each other. He also asks Max if he has any information about people traveling from France to Canada. Envelope is included. File also contains a typed translation.
