She had 6 grandchildren, Robin, Mark, Laurie, Jeff, Josh, and Gideon. She died on 10 May 1991.

Sarah Goldstick was married to Wolf Goldstick. Their daughter Celia married Mr. Louis Goodman, and they had two daughters, Dina and Rose. Dina only lived until the age of two. The surviving child, Rose, was born in Chicago. She married Mac Snider during the 1920s, and they had two children, Jordon and Susan, who were born in 1929 and 1935 respectively. Her husband died at a young age in March 1935, leaving Rose a young widow.

Scope and Content

This family portrait includes four generations of Goldsticks: Sarah Goldstick (far right), Celia Goodman (left), Rose Snider (back) and her son Jordon (in front). The photograph was taken in Toronto at Simpson Brothers Studio on Yonge Street, five years before Sarah passed away in 1936.

Notes

The file list provides the name Gordon for the child. However, Betty's family record book indicates that Rose's son's name was Jordon Sigmund Harry Snider. Therefore Jordon is used as the name for the child.

Ben and Elsie Harold were Labour Zionists, and Ben was a UJA chair in 1982. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan. Ben passed away before Elsie.

Elsie Harold (21 May 1915–12 May 2006) was born in 1915 and had three siblings, Saul Freeman, Ruth Netter, and Pearl Mekler. She married Ben Harold and had three children, Nancy Harold, Dr. David Harold, and Dr. Rena Harold. She was a grandmother to seven grandchildren and great-grandmother of four great-grandchildren prior to her death in 2006.

In the early years, Henry dispersed food to the hungry and helped people from Poland, Rumania, and Latvia after they settled in Canada. Henry opened E. & H. Dworkin Steamship and Bankers in 1917 with his brother Edward. The business continued as Dworkin Travel at 525 Dundas West. Dworkin Travel was the oldest travel agency in Toronto which also carried a wholesale tobacco business at the rear. Henry was also the founder of the Labour Lyceum. Henry and Dorothy had one daughter, Ellen, whose nickname was Honey. He died in an auto accident in 1928 and 20,000 people attended the funeral.

Dorothy Dworkin (née Goldstick) was born in Latvia in 1890. She was the daughter of William and Sarah Goldstick. She came to Canada in 1904 at 14 years of age. She studied nursing in the United States, by training at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland. She then took her exams in midwifery, and in 1909, she received her diploma from the State Board of Ohio.

In 1911 she married Henry Dworkin, who was the founder of the Toronto Labour Lyceum. Henry opened a variety store in 1917, which later became a tobacco and shipping agency business called Dworkin Travel, located at 525 Dundas Street West. Together, the Dworkins helped bring in hundreds of immigrants from Poland, Roumania and Latvia. The couple had a daughter, Ellen, whom they referred to as Honey. In 1928, Henry was tragically killed in an automobile accident. After her husband's death, Dorothy brought up her daughter alone, ran the travel business, and continued to do charitable work with Mount Sinai Hospital.

Scope and Content

Accession consists of a covering letter to Steve (presumably Speisman) from Sidney Harris dated September 14, 1976. The letter refers to two documents (a letter) one of which is in Hebrew and the other being its translation into English. The translation was performed by BGK (likely Ben Kayfetz). The covering letter refers to the Geldzaeler and Scheuer families and also refers to other documents being given to Steve. However, there were no other documents in the folder. The letter was from Mark Geldzaeler to Edmund Scheuer in thanks for a gift of a box of cigars.

Itche Goldberg (1904–2007) was a teacher at Workmen's Circle/Arbeiter Ring School. A promoter of the Yiddish language, Goldberg edited the Yidishe Kulture journal, serving as editor from 1964 to 2004. Active in left-wing politics, he ultimately repudiated Communist ideology in the 1950s. He died in 2007 at the age of 102.
