Admin History/Bio
Spencer Evans was the publicity chief for Maple Leaf Gardens during the 1940s and 1950s and in 1963, became the director of public relations for the Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club.
Sam Shopsowitz was the son of Harry and Jennie Shopsowitz who started the family business, Shopsy's Delicatessen, in 1921. Sam eventually took over the business in 1947 with his brother Izzy. The Shopsy's Pee Wee hockey team was the Toronto Marlboros pee-wee team and was sponsored by Shopsy's Delicatessan. They were part of the larger Toronto Marlboros minor hockey organization, which was directly sponsored by the Toronto Maple Leafs in order to train new players starting at the age of nine. The team played in the Toronto Hockey League.

The Wayne and Shuster Show was a half-hour radio program, which broadcast live on the CBC at 9:30pm on Thursday evenings. The show featured the comedy of Wayne and Shuster, along with co-stars Eric Christmas, Terry Dale, Herb May and several guest comedians. The show was produced by Jackie Rae and Samuel Hershenhoren provided the music. The radio program ran until 1954, when Johnny Wayne and Frank Shuster began to appear in hour-long specials on CBC television.
Scope and Content
This file consists of one script written for the Wayne and Shuster Show on CBC radio. The skit is about a hockey game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Mimico Mice.

Goody Rosen was born in Toronto on 28 August 1912. He played baseball in Toronto for the Lizzies and debuted as a professional ball player in 1937. He was one of the first Jewish boys in North America to play for the major leagues. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers for most of his career, moving to the New York Giants for one year, before retiring in 1946.

Scope and Content
Accession consists of a small silver plate trophy presented each year by the United Jewish Welfare Fund to the division with the largest percentage of new givers. It was named after J. Irving Oelbaum, who was a former president of the fund. The first recipient division in 1945 was the Women's Division, followed by the University Students Division, the Metropolitan Division, Youth Division and the Young Men's Division.
Custodial History
The custodial history of this item is unknown. It belonged to the United Jewish Welfare Fund and thus was most likely transferred to the Archives by UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. It was in a box at the back of the vault and was discovered during a sweep of the vault.

Biography
Samuel "Sam" Rothschild was born on 16 October 1899 in Sudbury to Daniel and Annie Rothschild, the city's first Jewish settlers. Daniel Rothschild was a merchant in the city, whose retail and office property is listed on the city's register of historic properties.
Samuel was the first Jewish player in the National Hockey League (NHL) and played a total of 102 games. He played for the Montreal Maroons, Pittsburgh Pirates, and New York Americans. He was the last surviving member of the 1926 Stanley Cup champion Maroons.
Following his retirement from the NHL, Rothschild took up coaching and coached the junior Sudbury Wolves to the 1932 Memorial Cup championship. He married Eva Yackman in 1933. He was also a prominent supporter of curling in the city, was president of the Northern Ontario Curling Association and the Canadian Curling Association from 1957 to 1958, and secured the city's status as host city of the 1953 Brier. He was later inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame. He also served for two years on Sudbury's city council. He died on 15 April 1987, aged eighty-seven years.

Buck Houle was the general manager of the Toronto Marlboros, which was a minor hockey organization directly sponsored by the Toronto Maple Leafs in order to train new players, starting at the age of nine.

Bill Harris was a hockey player who was first signed by the Leaf organization in 1950, becoming a Marlboro in the junior ranks. He then joined the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1955 and played on three consecutive Stanley Cup winning teams with them. He also coached the Canadian National Team during the 1969-70 season.
Jean Beliveau was a hockey player who played first played with the Quebec junior team, the Quebec City Citadelles, and then the senior team, the Quebec Aces. He was signed to the Montreal Canadiens in 1953 and played on ten Stanley Cup winning teams with the Montreal Canadiens after signing with them in 1953.

The Adamantus Club was a Toronto Jewish boy's club. All of the members of this team attended Upper Canada College and graduated from 1930 to 1933.
This hockey team played in the PCAC collegiate hockey league. That year they lost the cup to the Collegiate Club hockey team. The game was played at Varsity Arena.

Scope and Content
This item is a copy print and corresponding negative of a youth hockey team sponsored by B'nai Brith of Brantford, Ontario. The photograph depicts the team members in their hockey attire, as well as two coaches, on an outdoor rink. The photograph was taken at the Earl Haig hockey rink. Mark Resnick is pictured wearing a jersey with a "C" and his brother David Resnick is wearing a jersey with an "A". Their father was the coach. Jeff Kanter is also in the photo.
