The council promoted education through the arts, providing both adult and children's classes, many of which were free to ‘Y’ members. The council comprised schools of dance, art, music, drama, Jewish Studies and recreational activities.
Scope and Content
This file contains textual records relating to the operation of the Y-Arts Council. The records include program books, financial summaries, enrollment summaries, program publicity and correspondence. There is also a fold-out poster entitled "A day with the YM-YWHA Arts Council", originally printed as an insert with the Toronto Jewish Reporter.

By the 1960s, the Cultural and Educational Department of the YM-YWHA was running a program known as the Y-Arts Council. The council promoted education through the arts, providing both adult and children's classes, many of which were free to ‘Y’ members. The council was comprised of schools of dance, art, music, drama, Jewish Studies and recreational activities.
Scope and Content
This sub-series consists of eight course registration ledger books for the classes offered through the northern branch's Y-Arts Council. Each ledger contains information relating to the types of courses offered, as well as the day and time they were given, the names of the teachers leading the courses, the registration fee, the names and addresses of the registrants and their payment status. Each book is designated for a specific year or semester. The course registration ledgers would have been kept by the administrative staff, under the supervision of the executive director.
The records have been arranged by year. In some cases, there is more than one book per year, as specific programs were often given their own ledger book, such as the Junior Summer Fun program.

Admin History/Bio
The Y-Time was the official news organ of the Toronto YM-YWHA. The paper began in 1933 as the YMHA Bulletin and was originally produced as an annual publication. The Executive Committee was originally in charge of most of the content that was submitted to the editor for printing. In later years, the YM-YWHA's Publication Committee took over responsibility for producing the newspaper. It was mailed out, free of charge, to the YM-YWHA. membership until around 1978, when the paper ended.
Scope and Content
This sub-series consists of Y-Time newspapers produced by the YM-YWHA. The newspapers are organized by year, generally with six-to-ten issues per year. There are also some bound volumes of the periodicals.
There are several missing issues, particularly from the years between 1936 and 1951. There is also some duplication between the bound issues and the loose issues, both of which have been kept due to the uniqueness of the record.

File consists of records related to the Visual Arts Committee of the YM-YWHA, also known as the Fine Arts Committee. This committee predated the establishment of the Koffler Centre of the Arts. Records include membership lists, correspondence, job descriptions, meeting minutes and agendas, background material for the planning of the Cultural Arts Centre, and a basic outline for the School of Fine Arts.

File consists of records related the the Visual Arts Committe of the YM-YWHA and the Koffler Centre of the Arts. Records include meeting minutes and agendas, Visual Arts and Koffler Gallery list of classes, programs and special workshops, Koffler Centre fee recommendations, a summary of recommendations made by the Visual Arts Committee, Koffler Centre statement of long range goals, annual events five year projection, a letter from the ROM regarding the exhibition Danzig: Treasures from a Destroyed Community and a letter from Marvelle Koffler to the Jewish Museum in New York regarding their traveling exhibitions. Aslo included is a Koffler Centre of the Arts progam guide, invitations to exhibits at the Koffler Gallery for the artists, Anita Aarons, David Wright, John Phillips and contributing artists for the exhibit Raku and Smoke Fired Clay "1980".

Scope and Content
Accession consists of textual records, photographs and a music CD from the Koffler Centre for the Arts. Records from the 1960s and 1970s concern the Koffler and the Northern YMHA/BJCC. These records include meeting minutes, agendas, correspondence, budgets, programme proposals, booklets, flyers, clippings and brochures. A box list was provided by the donor and can be found in box 1. The later records from the 2000s document Koffler programs and governance and include invitations, programs, clippings, Board meeting minutes and brochures. Approximately one third of the records concern the Stars of the 21st Century dance gala held annually since 2001. These files are working files of correspondence, communications packages put together, and also include invitations, programs, sponsorship proposals, promotional material and the text of a speech by Koffler president Tiana Koffler Boyman.
The CD of music is a recording of the Children of a Vanished World show, a production that was staged at the Koffler in 2004.
The accession also includes two CDs with digital photographs, including a double set of the 2003 gala performance of Stars of the 21st Century, 40 images from the gala reception, and 58 images taken at Koffler art and dance classes.

Accession consists of a spiral bound proposal of renovation specifications for the Koffler Centre of the Arts, Project No. 7908, submitted May 1980 by Jerome Markson Architects, 161 Davenport Rd., Toronto. The number "24" is stamped on the lower right corner of the front cover. Included in the specifications are Instructions to Bidders, Tender Information, General Requirements, the Specifications for Technical Specs, which include Demolition & Patching, Masonry, Metals, Wood & Plastics, Thermal & Moisture Protection, Windows & Doors, Finishes, Specialties, Equipment, Furnishings, Special Construction, Conveying Systems, Door Schedule, Room Finish Schedule and detail sketches. Also included are the specifications for the Mechanical & Electrical Tender. A tri-fold advertising leaflet from Specialty Chemical Limited, specialist in boiler and cooling water treatment is included.

Hyman's Books and Art was a popular locale for the literary crowd. Hebraists were known to spend time here, discussing the latest trends in the world of literature. The owner Ben Zimon Hyman was also a Hebrew teacher but had originally trained as an engineer both in Russia and at the University of Toronto.

History
The store was operated by Ben Zion Hyman and his wife Fanny. Their hours were 8:30 a.m. to 1pm daily (except for Saturday). There was a mimeograph machine, pop cooler, newspapers and a bar mitzvah registry. They carried Yiddish and Hebrew books, Judaica, tickets for the Standard Theatre, stationary, and school supplies. The store later moved to 412 Spadina Ave. (Donegan, Spadina Ave., p.138)
