This item is a photograph of a group of officers in the mobile signals unit stationed in Normandy, France during the Second World War. Pictured are (descriptions in parenthesis were written by Bill Stern on the back of the original photograph):
Front row, left to right: Dori Landry (the padre of the outfit); Joe Maddigan (farm boy from Saskatchewan -- brother-in-law of Joe [Linachio] -- remember Joe?); Bill Stern (some guy you wouldn't know); Murray Smail (nursing a bottle of beer -- as usual).
Second row, left to right: Barney Gordon (eating a Compo biscuit -- bread to us in those days); "Jack" Sinclair (our Scottish representative -- has since left this world -- his place was taken by a Canadian lad -- did I tell you that we are now 100% Canadian -- all 23 of us); "Red" Macdonald (our problem child. Red can put away more liquor than any ten men I've ever known); "Taffy" Meredith (our wireless [mub?] from Wales -- has also since left this world to make way for a Canadian); [Dines Pinard?].
Third row, left to right: Ed Ross; "Chuck" [Parker]; Junior Loman; Sgt. Larry White; [Red Alter]; Cpl. Art Adamson.
Fourth row, left to right: Cpl. Ronnie Wilfred; [?] Simpkins; Paul Reinhardt (from B.C.); Jimmy Barton (from around Manchester way -- also left); and "Johnny Be Careful" (our politician from the wilds of Quebec, Shawinigan Falls to be exact).
