Admin History/Bio
Janice Gross Stein was born in 1943 and is a prominent Toronto-based academic and professor, having been (since 2000) the Belzberg Professor of Conflict Management in the Department of Political Science and the director of the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario.
Erwin Schild was born on 9 March 1920 in Germany, the son of Herman and Hetti. He arrived in Canada from Great Britain on 15 July 1940 aboard the SS Sobiesky and was interned with nearly three thousand other wartime refugees. He was eventually ordained by Yeshivah Torath Chaim, Toronto, and served as rabbi of the Adath Israel Congregation from 1947 to 1989. He married Laura Saxe, and, together, they have three children: Herman, Hedy, and Naomi. He has written about his experiences in "World Through My Window" and "The Very Narrow Bridge: A Memoir of an Uncertain Passage." In 2001, he was made a member of the Order of Canada.

Admin History/Bio
Sol Kanee was a prominent Winnipeg-based lawyer and Jewish leader. Sol was born on 1 June 1909 to Samuel and Rose Kanee. He attended school to become a lawyer, practicing until the outbreak of the Second World War. He served with the Canadian Army Artillery for five years during the war, retiring with the rank of major. In the 1970s, he was elected the vice-president of the Canadian Jewish Congress, served on the board of governors of the Bank of Canada, and was chair of the Federal Business Development Bank. Due to his many accomplishments, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1977. He and his wife Florence had one son, Stephen.

File consists of one photograph of Phil Givens shaking hands with Sol Kanee.

Scope and Content
This sub-series consists of two files. The two events are an opening at the Park Plaza Hotel and a Pidyon Ha'Ben ceremony for Herbert Solway's son Gary.
Images from the Park Plaza Hotel consist of views of the ballroom, the entertainers, and friends and family enjoying the party. Family members identified are from the Schwartz, Halbert and Wintrob families. Non-family members identified are from the Yolles and Rotenberg families. There are 12 negatives in this file.
Images from file 2 consist of partygoers for the Pidyon Ha'Ben ceremony in Alex Solway's apartment. Those in attendance were from the Schwartz, Shleser, Solway and Rotenberg families. There are 12 negatives in this file.

These items were found behind a wall during renovation of a home in Rosedale by a Mr. Knobel's daughter.
