- Activities undertaken by the Committee for Soviet Jewry in Ontario and its affiliated partner organizations included political lobbying, telephone and letter-writing campaigns, product boycotting, symposiums, public rallies, petitions, marches and demonstrations. Among the highest profile activities were the annual Simcha Torah rallies in October and the annual commemorations of the execution of twenty-four Soviet Jewish writers and intellectuals, which had occurred on August 12, 1952 at Moscow's Liubianka prison. As well as organizing public protest activities, the Committee for Soviet Jewry established, in the 1980s, the Ida Nudel Humanitarian Award which emphasized the humanitarian work of a number of prominent Canadian women. Other non-protest activities included bar/ bat mitzvah twinning, family and prisoner sponsorships, and holiday greetings, all programmes that tied the daily lives of Soviet Jews to their Canadian counterparts.

- The Jewish Community Centre of London was originally affiliated with the United Way; however, today they form a part of the United Jewish Appeal London Federation. Previously, the Centre offered programmes for the Jewish community of London including day camps, Hebrew schools, seniors groups, and other recreational events. Today, these programmes are still being offered, but have grown substantially to accommodate the increasing demand.

- The Sarnia Jewish community worshiped at the old Davis Street Synagogue which was established in 1922. In 1950 ground was broken and the cornerstone laid for the Ahavas Isaac Synagogue and Community Centre. The new building opened in 1951.

- Custodial History
- The records were in the custody of Mark Goldhamer, former president of the Beth El Synagogue and were originally lent to the Archives for research purposes for the Small Jewish Communities project. Upon discussion with the director of the Archives, Mark decided to donate the records to the OJA and thus they were transferred via Sharon Gubbay Helfer, oral historian and researcher/writer on the small Jewish Communities project.

- Scope and Content
- Series consists of textual records and graphic material documenting Phil Givens' involvement with the Jewish community. In particular, the textual records include general correspondence, speeches and convention materials documenting his role as national president of the Canadian Zionist Federation and his involvement with many other Jewish organizations. The records also consist of certificates, scrapbooks, objects, photographs of various events within the community as well as photographic albums presented to Givens on the occasion of his 1968 Jewish National Fund Negev dinner and his 1985 Canadian Zionist Federation testimonial dinner.
- The majority of the records has been arranged into nine sub-series: 9-1. B’nai Brith; 9-2. Canadian Zionist Federation; 9-3. Jewish National Fund; 9-4. Keren Hayesod; 9-5. Rho Pi Phi fraternity; 9-6. State of Israel Bonds; 9-7. United Jewish Welfare Fund / United Jewish Appeal; and 9-8. Other Jewish organizations.
