Accession consists of a correspondence file of Professor Ben Bernholtz of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering, documenting the activities of CONTACT/USSR.
Administrative History
CONTACT/USSR was an organization affiliated with the Canadian Jewish Congress founded at the University of Toronto, and supported by many academics. The aim of the organization was to establish and maintain written contact with "Refuseniks" and "Prisoners of Conscience" in the USSR and to lobby the Canadian government to persuade the Soviet autorities to permit unhampered emigration of Soviet Jews.
Accession consists of a program from the installation dinner and dance of the Toronto Lodge B'nai Brith, held on 14 January 1935 at the Royal York Hotel.
This accession consists of one program booklet created for the UJA Federation's awards ceremony entitled "celebrating the stars". The event, which honoured the philanthropic work of individuals within the Jewish community, took place on June 11, 2008. The booklet features a description of the various awards given out at the ceremony, as well as a short biography on the recipients.

UJA Federation meeting minutes and general correspondence are closed for 10 years from date of creation. Contracts and donor agreements are permanently closed.
Accession consists of photographs and oral history interviews created as part of the Prosserman JCC's Intergenerational Oral History Program. Interviews were conducted by CHAT and CHAR grade 9 students with seniors about their memories growing up in Toronto, particularly in the Kensington Market area. Clips from many of the interviews were used in the film, Shtetl in the City, which was created by the Prosserman JCC. The photographs depict the seniors with the students who interviewed them.

Sub-series consists of textual records documenting various programs and events of the Adas Israel Synagogue. Included are program notices, correspondence, brochures, flyers, invitations and calendars. Also included is a pass book from the Adas Israel Society of Hamilton and a testimonial dinner book.
Sol Edell organized a seniors group, Chug Arichat Yomin (or Long Life Club), which provided religious, cultural and recreational activities. It was based in Clanton park synagogue and was funded by the New Horizons, an agency of Health and Welfare Canada.
Scope and Content
File consists of publicity leaflets announcing the programs organized by the Chug Arichat Yomin such as movies and cooking classes. In addition, there is a report summarizing the ongoing activities of the club.
File consists of publicity flyers advertising religious and educational programmes sponsored by a number of different organizations including B'Nai Torah Congregation, Darche Noam and National Council for Synagogue Youth. Many of these programmes were co-sponsored by Clanton Park or took place at the Synagogue.
File consists of invitations, correspondence, and publicity flyers documenting the programs and events sponsored by the Clanton Park Sisterhood. These include installation receptions, general meetings, teas, fashion shows and lectures.
Sub-series consists of records pertaining to the administration of JIAS's core functions and operational activities. The records consist of correspondence, immigrant lists, memoranda, logs, tables, and articles for JIAS publications. Social Services records include correspondence, monthly aggregate case sheets, statistical reports of the Case Committee, and reports on integration programs for Moroccan and Russian immigrants in the 1970s.
The sub-series is arranged in chronological-alphabetical order, with blocks of related records kept together. These record blocks include: Social Services case sheets, which list immigrants' names, family structure, occupation, date of arrival, services rendered, request, decision, and remarks; Grant Reports (1979-1984), which are monthly statistics logs submitted to the Immigrant Settlement & Adaptation Program for reimbursement from Employment and Immigration Canada. These reports break down case workers’ activities into the number of hours spent on orientation, information, referral, interpretation, translation, escort, advocacy, and supportive counselling. Naturalization files (1935-1978) contain brief letters concerning the taking of the Oath of Allegiance and the names of naturalized immigrants. Translations files (1959-1988) consist of copies of documents translated by JIAS staff, of personal letters, birth certificates, marriage certificates, professional registrations and police conduct reports. United Jewish Relief Agencies' “Short term Social Services Statements of Administrative & Operational Expenditures” (1960-1981) are monthly tables submitted to JIAS’s overseeing agency, the United Jewish Relief Agencies. These tables record clients’ names, family structure, ages, occupation, date of arrival, services rendered, decision, and staff comments.

Arrangement
This sub-series was created by the archivist from records originally part of series MG2 I1a K2 "Immigration Files - Administration, Projects." In the JIAS office, files were maintained in a central registry system of random numerical classification (these original numbers remain on the files).
File consists of meeting minutes of the Joint Subcommittee on Boarding Home Program of the Jewish Social Service Agencies. Agencies present at the meeting were Lambert Lodge, Jewish Family and Child Services, and the Jewish Home for the Aged.

File consists of textual records documenting the educational and support services for Baycrest's staff. Included are brochures, flyers, and programs for "Clinic Days" and other workshops and symposiums, booklets outlining library resources for staff, and a speech delivered by Dr. M. Gilman on "The Terminal Patient" at the Baycrest Hospital Grand Rounds. Also included is a business card for the Employee Assistance Program (a counseling service for staff and volunteers).
File consists of textual records documenting Baycrest's volunteer and volunteen programs. Included are issues of the Volunteer Voice newsletter, flyers, brochures, volunteer manuals and handbooks, monthly statistic reports, invitations, and correspondence. Also included is one pin that was worn by volunteer Miriam Beckerman.
The Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care offers a number of programs for Holocaust survivors and their families. Programs include: Café Europa (a social/recreational program held every other week), Holocaust Child Survivors and Hidden Children's Group (a support group), and the Second Generation Support Group for Adult Children of Aging Holocaust Survivors. Baycrest also has issued a number of publications on caring for survivors.

File consists of invitations, correspondence, and a programme for the Holocaust Survivor Outreach Committee's Holocaust Remembrance Service (Yom Hashoah).
The Jewish Hospice program is a joint program of the Jewish Family and Child Service, Mount Sinai Hospital, Senior Care, and Baycrest Centre. It provides home-centered care for Jewish individuals with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Social workers, doctors, a chaplain and volunteers visit participants at home to provide counseling, assist with daily living, and provide companionship. This program is funded by the Jewish Federation of Greater Toronto and no fees are charged.
