- Accession consists of material documenting Nancy Levy, primarily education records, such as citizenship awards and scholarship awards issued by the Board of Education for the City of Hamilton, Ontario. It also consists of certificates and patches issued by the Canadian Red Cross Society and the Royal Life Saving Society of Canada while at Camp Kadimah and Hamilton's Recreation Centre as well a photograph of a Temple Anshe Sholom confirmation class taken in 1967. - Nancy Levy was born in 1951 to Corinne (née Cohn) and Edgar Levy. (Corinne and Edgar's name was originally Moshe Noss. He was born in the Ukraine and orphaned at an early age. Around 1921 he immigrated to Canada through the help of a Mr. Grafstein. Once in Canada, Edgar and his brothers were adopted into different families. The Levy family adopted Edgar and he took their name.
- Edgar married Corrine Cohn in 1946. Edgar had a business in Hamilton called Piston Service, which was a wholesaler for car parts. Corrine drove a truck for this business and eventually became the bookkeeper for another firm. After marriage, they lived in Hamilton at 18 West Third.
- Nancy had two younger siblings: Ann (1956–) and Lois (1958–2018). She married Wayne Greenberg in 1979 and they divorced around 1985. She studied medical lab technology at a community college and worked at various hospitals and businesses, including Henderson Hospital in Hamilton and Baycrest.

- Administrative History
- The Noss family traces its origins to Russia/Ukraine. The patriarch, Avraham Noss, died after contracting typhus after being badly beaten in a pogrom. His wife, Toiba, died of either cholera, typhus, or influenza (accounts vary). They left behind four children: Raisa, Meyer, Joseph, and Moshe. The extended family took care of the four orphans but did not have enough food to feed them, so the three youngest were put in a Jewish orphanage. The eldest, Raisa, was too old but came every day to visit her brothers. One day, she arrived only to be told, "The missionaries took them away." The entire orphanage was brought to Canada. A Mr. Hershman from Toronto was involved as was a congregation of Christadelphians from Hamilton including a Mr. Farrar who owned a good-quality clothing store.
- Raisa remained in Russia, where she received an education from the Communist Party and became an engineer. Meyer kept in touch with his sister for as long as possible, but the two eventually lost touch.
- The Drazin family took in Meyer, the eldest brother, although the family never adopted him. Despite this, he changed his name to Drazin. Joseph ("Joe") was adopted but was returned to Children's Aid, where he went from foster home to foster home. He eventually took back the Noss family name. As for Moshe, he was adopted by Moses Levy and Marietta Steinert. Moshe's new parents changed his name to Edgar Steinert Levy. Edgar Levy is thus the same individual as Moshe Noss. Marietta was well-known in the Hamilton community, and a chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women was named after her.

- This file consists of two photographs of Mort Levy. One features Mort Levy standing with Mr. A. Lipson on a dirt road and the other is Mort Levy sitting on the front steps of a cabin at Camp Frailoch, surrounded by campers. The cabin was probably the original Willison farmhouse, which was later bought by the YMCA in the 1940s and was destroyed by fire in the 1950s.There is also a letter from the Globe and Mail addressed to Mort Levy regarding the presentation of an engraving to Bobbie Rosenfeld and a membership certificate for the North Toronto YM-YWHA, signed by Sam Granatstein and Alex Fisher.

- Mrs. Dora Levy was the daughter of Abraham and Rebecca Cass and the sister of Sarah (Cass) Levine. She was born in Russia in 1870 and immigrated to Canada in 1889. She married Charles Levy (b. 1869) on 10 February 1892 in Toronto.
- Shortly thereafter, they moved to Allerston, Ontario, where he opened up a store. The couple had four children: Tobias (b. 1892), Louis (b. 1894), Benjamin (b. 1897) and Esther (b. 1899). Tobias, who was also referred to as Theodore or Ted, married Rhoda Davis on 12 June 1919. His sister, Esther, married Joseph Kert on 6 November 1921.

- The photographs were donated by Roz Tobias, the daughter-in-law of Morris Rose (the subject of the photographs).
- Administrative History
- Morris "Murray" Rose was born in Poland and came to Toronto as a child. His love of riding dates back to this time: at the age of ten, he would ride his grandfather's horse up and down the lanes of Kensington. Rose never completed secondary school; instead, he ran away from home at the age of fourteen and became a stable boy at the Woodbine Racetrack. Subsequently, he became a jockey. The high point of his career came on 23 May 1931, when, at the Churchill Downs Racetrack in Kentucky, he ran five winners in a six-card race. Rose retired from riding horses after sustaining a serious head injury during a race.
- After retiring from racing, Rose worked at a textile store on College Street. Later, he opened his own store on the south side of College Street at Spadina Avenue. He and his wife ran the store for many years with one or two employees. Rose eventually purchased the building in which his store was located and rented out space to a variety of businesses, including a smoke and confectionary store, a ticket agency, and an eyeglass store.
- Rose's entrepreneurial activity extended to purchasing bankrupt businesses and building apartment buildings with a group of friends. In the 1960s, he was a co-partner in Triangle Billiards at Bathurst Sreet and Sheppard Avenue. He also purchased a fifty-acre farm in Buttonville on Woodbine Avenue, which he rented out until his death.
- Rose died in July 1989 at the age of seventy-eight. He left behind a wife, Mary; two sons, Bobby and Ken; two daughters, Marjorie Swartz and Elaine Rubinoff; two sisters, Lil and Rae; a brother, Sam; fourteen grand children; and one great-grandchild.

- Accession consists of records documenting the immigration of Yakob and Szoszana Lipszyc. Included is a certificate issued by The Jewish Agency for Palestine on 20 April 1948 for Shoshana Handelmann's (aka Rose Lipszyc's) entry into Tel Aviv. Also included are: two immigrant identification cards issued by Immigration Canada on 8 Dec. 1952; a letter from the Canadian Department of Citizenship and Immigration dated 4 Nov. 1951, approving admission for Yakob and Szoszana Lipszyc into Canada; a letter from the Canadian Embassy in Rome on 22 July 1952, regarding a visa and entry into Rome; a document titled Italian Line regarding passage through Rome; a ticket booklet from Haifa issuing passage aboard the vessel Arisa from Haifa to Napoli on 8 Oct. 1952; and a passage ticket for a voyage from Napoli to Halifax on 28 Nov. 1952 on the vessel Saturnia.

- Rose Lipszyc was born on 27 May 1929 in Lublin, Poland. In 1940, the Germans forced Rose and her family out of their home, so they temporarily lived near Osmolice in a small shack in the polish countryside, where they survived by working in the fields.
On 14 Oct. 1942, the Nazis rounded up Rose and her family and brought them to the town square in Belzyce for deportation. Rose's father was taken to Madjanek. Sensing that they were being sent to their deaths, Rose’s mother pushed her out of the line; her mother and two brothers were then deported to concentration camps and murdered. A friend of the family, Mr. Yabloinska, a Polish farmer, provided Rose with his daughters’ identities. Rose and her 21-year-old aunt used these identities to escape to Germany posing as sisters to find work. Under the identity Helena Yabloinska, at the age of 13, Rose lived out the rest of the war hiding in plain sight, working as a Polish labourer in a German factory making ropes for ships. Rose lost approximately fifty members of her family during the Holocaust and only four survived, among them Rose and her aunt.
Rose was liberated in the spring of 1945 and went to Zeilsheim (near Frankfurt) to a displaced persons camp, where she remained until the end of 1946, when she joined the Aliyah Bet Zionist movement and attempted to illegally enter British Mandate Palestine, however, the British intercepted her boat and interned her in Cyprus. In 1948, the British finally granted her entry into Israel. Along the way, she met Jack Lipszyc, another Holocaust survivor. Rose and Jack married in 1949 in Jaffa, Israel where they lived until December 1952, when they immigrated to Toronto. Rose worked at the McGregor Sock Factory.
In 2021, Rose received the Order of Canada for her dedication to Holocaust education. She has three children, five granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

- Accession consists of photographs, a marriage certificate, a notebook and several pocket books. The photographs are of Rose Freidman's family and friends, including the Solomon family. Some of the photographs are pasted into a scrapbook that has been annotated to include the names of the photograph subjects and some additional commentary. The notebook contains goodwill messages from Rose's friends prior to her wedding. There is a marriage ceritificate for Harry Solomon and Dora Rogowitch dated August 23, 1907.
- In addition, there several small pocket size books including a Jewish calendar from the Jewish National Fund of Canada, six annual hebrew calendars from the Toronto Jewish Old Folks Home, and an abridged five year calendar from the Hebrew National Kosher Sausage Company. Finally, there is a booklet entitled "Afikim: The Story of a Kibbutz" by Lionel Feitelberg.

- Administrative History
- Irene Granovsky founded the Balfour Manor Camp in 1935 and subsequently served as its director. The camp took its name from British foreign secretary Arthur James Balfour, the author of the Balfour Declaration. The camp was situated on Morrison Lake and served as a private camp for Jewish youth, providing such activities as canoeing, swimming, and tennis. At its peak, the camp was home to two hundred or so campers. It closed in 1952.

- Item is a copy of the third edition of the Naomi Cook Book. The third edition appeared in 1948 with a second printing in 1950.
- Custodial History
- The cook book was in the possession of the donor's mother-in-law, Rose Evelyn Yolleck (née Saunders), at the time of her death. It is unclear when or how she acquired it. The donor and her husband found it among other recipe books and magazines.
- Administrative History
- Rose Evelyn Yolleck (née Saunders) was born in London, England in 1925. Rose's father passed away when she was an infant; consequently, she was raised by her mother, Sarah. Rose had two older brothers: Mossy, who remained in England, and Henry, who immigrated to Ontario and settled in St. Catherines.
- Rose immigrated to Canada in the early 1950s, settling in Toronto. In the mid-1950s, she married Samuel "Sam" Yolleck. Rose worked as a model with Sam, who sold coats along Canada's east coast. Later, Rose and Sam formed a collection agency, Power Corporation.
- Rose often created award-winning costumes for various celebrations. She was also the chairperson of her condominum's social group and planned quarterly excursions to Casino Niagara until a few months before her ninety-forth birthday.
- Reform Jews, Rose and Sam were members of Temple Sinai Congregation. Sam died on December 16, 1995; Rose died on January 30, 2019. She is survived by sons Stephen Yolleck and Jeff Yolleck, daughter-in-law Phyllis Rubenstein Yolleck, and grandson Ethan.
