- Item is a photograph of a group of young men who were members of Hakoah Vienna, a Jewish sports club in Vienna, Austria. On the reverse of the photograph are signatures of the famous sports club and a German inscription "In memory of the cameraderie of the sport club Hakoah." Signatures identified include: Max Scheuer; [Béla Guttmann?]; [Schwartzbein?]; Joseph Stross.
- According to an email from a member of the public, the photograph was likely taken in connection with the Hakoah soccer team's appearance in Toronto for a match against a Toronto all-star team. The game took place on 26 May 1927 and was covered in the Jewish Telegraphic Agency the next day.
- Administrative History
- The Hakoah soccer team was established in Vienna, Austria, circa 1909. It was closed down by the Nazis sometime between 1938 and 1941. In 1945, the club re-formed its football team only to disband in 1949.
