- Admin History/Bio
- The Zionist Book Club was created in 1962 by the Central Region Education and Programme Department, which was responsible for the development of educational and public awareness programmes to promote Israeli and Jewish culture in Canada. The club was created to encourage the purchase and reading of Israeli literature and books with Jewish themes.
- The Education and Programme Department also sponsored film festivals, art exhibitions, and Israeli, Jewish, and Zionist "Book Months," but the Zionist Book Club was the most popular of its programmes. Subscribers to the book club could purchase books at discounted prices from selected publisher lists of Israeli literature and books with Jewish themes. The book club also supported public lectures and lecture series and commissioned reviews of book club selections.
- Scope and Content
- The series consists of correspondence and other records relating to the selection, purchase and promotion of Zionist Book Club offerings, correspondence with book club subscribers, and information on lectures and other public events sponsored by the Club.
