- Admin History/Bio
- Dr. Irwin Lightman was born on 22 October 1919 in Vienna, Austria. He was the son of Samuel Lichtman and Sarah Lichtman of Galicia, Austria. On 20 July 1946, he married Selma Vise (m. Lightman) and together they had three children: Bernard, Ellen, and Jonathan. Lightman was a dentist by profession. He was an active supporter of the Jewish Home for the Aged and Baycrest Hospital. Irwin also chaired the UJA's Toronto Leadership Developement Group in the 1960s, a group whose aims were to train young men to take on responsabilities within the Jewish community, societies, and welfare funds.
