- Admin History/Bio
- Mr. Morris Nobleman was born in 1893 in Orsha, near Mogilev, Belarus. He moved to Toronto in 1911. He studied at Zhitomir yeshiva. He was culturally active at Baycrest (Bulletin) and a writer (reminiscences).
- Mrs. Brokhe Geller was born in 1898 in Uman, Podolia (present-day Ukraine) She moved to Canada in 1921. She was grandmother of five grandchildren at the time of recording.
- Mrs. Pola Kroch was born in 1888 in Volodymyr-Volynskyi (present-day Volodymyr, Ukraine). She moved to Canada in 1928.
- Mrs. Fannie Rosen-Gershkowitz was born in 1889 in Wierzbolów (present-day Virbalis, Lithuania). She moved to Toronto in 1906.
- Mrs. Sheva Zamick was born in Ryzhanivka, near Zhytomyr, in present-day Ukrain. She was active in Baycrest's cultural life (Bulletin).
- Mr. Sam Krakower was born in 1898 in Czestochowa, Poland.
- Mrs. Rae Grossman was born in 1910 in Ostrów Mazowiecka, near Warsaw, Poland. She moved to Toronto in 1925.
- Scope and Content
- Item consists of recorded sessions with Mr. Morris Nobleman, who heard most of the songs he remembers from his mother before the First World War; Mrs. Brokhe Geller; Mrs. Pola Kroch; Mrs. Thelma Cohen; Mrs. Fannie Rosen-Gershkowitz; Mr. Ben Shneider, who relates three stories about the Baal Shem Tov; Mrs. Sheva Zamick; Mr. Sam Krakower; Mrs. S. Milgram; Mrs. Rae Grossman; Mr. M. Shushan; Mr. Abe Simrow; and Mrs. Yetta Brickman.

- Physical Condition
- Tape is in good condition. Track 1 audio quality is very poor -- volume is low, considerable amount of noise, content is very hard to understand, large section seems to be backwards; track 2 sound quality varies from fair to poor -- volume varies, and content is often difficult to understand.
