- Mr. J. Boles was born in 1901 in Vashbinik (Radom province), Poland. He moved to Canada in 1913.
- Scope and Content
- Item consists of a proverb session with Sholom Katz. Interviewed according to his collection of thousands of proverbs (Katz Proverbs). Also included are sessions with Mr. Yitskhok and Mrs. Menukhe Halpert, who recall proverbs, sayings and similes, and relate them to Dov Noy; Leybl Basman, who relates a song from "Bunt un Statshke;" Mrs. Felicia and Mr. Pawel Mroz; Mr. J. Boles, who provides biographical information, and discusses different situations of Jews in Toronto, activities in theatre, brother's activities in Yiddish theatre in Toronto, Yiddish cultural activities in Toronto, and Purim-shpils in the old country. Also includes sessions at Nakhman Sokol's home with Mr. Dave Newman, who relates proverbs and folk sayings; and with Mr. Norenberger. Also includes a session with Mr. Leo Robin, who relates sayings and proverbs according to the collection of I. Furman during an interview with Mr. L. Bassman (most of the sayings are explained by the informant and collector; the latter participates actively).

- Physical Condition
- Tape is in good condition. Track 1 audio quality is fair -- content is mostly clear, with some amount of noise and volume variation; track 2 audio quality is poor -- volume is quite low, and sound is muffled.
