- Scope and Content
- Item consists of Ben Kayfetz's segment. He expresses his congratulations to Anne Golden, who had been chosen to succeed Gordon Cressy as executive head of the United Way. He talks about Golden's career and praises her as an example of the new Jewish woman. He then talks about his attendance that afternoon to the Canadian Jewish Congress' regional conference, at the Lipa Green, and his dificulty in choosing a session to attend, mentioning some of them. He goes on to talk about the Reichmann family's filing action for liable against the publisher and editor of Toronto Life Magazine and Elaine Dewer, author of the article "The Mysterious Reichmanns: The Inside Story." He then talks about the participation of the Soviet Jewry Committee of the CJC in the march on Washignton on 6 December, the day of the summit meeting between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev. Finally, he briefly mentions the reports that the B'nai B'rith League for Human Rights was ordered by a jury to pay reparations to a Winnipeg complainant in a liable case as a reflection of the poor state of East-West Jewish communications in Canada, as he had not heard about the case before.
