- Scope and Content
- File consists of records relating to David Pinkus’ Israel study tour in 1950. David served as chairman of the Intercollegiate Zionist Federation of America (IZFA) Tour Committee of Toronto and played a key role in organizing this study tour. The tour involved co-operation between different organizations, including the IZFA, the Canadian Zionist Youth Council, the Jewish Agency for Israel, the Histadrut, the Hechalutz Organization of America, and Nirenberg Travel Agency of Montreal. Records included are receipts, correspondence, newspaper clippings of the travel agency and the ship T.S.S. Canberra, a tourist registration form of the State of Israel, David’s notes regarding the tour plan, brochures and promotional material of the study tour, a magazine named Youth Horizon—Journal of the Jewish Youth Leader published by Youth and Hechalutz Department of Zionist Organization, and a 1947-1948 calendar booklet that contains information about Jewish culture and attractions in Israel. Because the tour group planned to stay in the United States and Italy for a short period of time during transit and have a stopover en route home in France, traveling documents such as the U.S. visitor’s permit, request forms for transit visas in Italy and France, and travel guidebooks of France are also included in this file.
