- Josef Gelbart (b. 1928) was born in Ostrowiec, Poland. He survived Majdanek, Treblinka, Auschwitz, and Buchenwald. He was living in Zurich, Switzerland, in the mid-to-late 1940s. In December 1948, Josef immigrated to Australia via Marseille, France, aboard the SS Eridan.

- Scope and Content
- File consists of a letter from Josef Gelbart in Zurich, Switzerland, to Rose Weinberg, dated 20 August 1946. In this letter, Josef writes that his brother-in-law would be willing to help him immigrate but is unable to due to financial constraints. He asks Mrs. Weinberg to help his brother-in-law or to find someone who is able help him obtain immigration paperwork. He writes that once he has the paperwork the Refugee Committee will help him with passage. Envelope is included.
